      Hi Cas
That just about sums up all the other rumors I have been reading about this release on 4K.
Why oh why do studios even bother to put half arsed efforts onto this new format.
My money will stay in my wallet thank you.

It still makes me laugh that people say they wont experience something because someone else doesn't like it. Looking forward to all the splendour this will provide me when it arrives. The experience of watching a genre you adore, on your set up , in your room cannot be decided upon by someone else.

That makes a mockery of you being on a discussion forum about a review.
Obviously the other poster has read the review and it tallies with other "rumours" he has read, and he wishes to save his hard-earned for a better product.

Well this has put a damper on my day! Have this week off and this is due to arrive today for viewing tonight. Maybe they have plans for a "remastered" version

Kind of wish I had not seen this now, But sure I will enjoy the film to some degree, Just not to the tune of £25 that has been out of my pocket for the last 4 months!

I suppose that's always the gamble with pre-ordering early but you're thinking is all wrong mate. The review has helped lower your expectations on it being a light canon of a HDR movie, now you know it's look is muted, which seems to be the look they wanted, you can enjoy it for what it is.

I chose to listen to this and other reviews and go with the 3d version, as it too has Atmos and is the better version for me. If the 3D had no Atmos then I would still have picked this up, but maybe at a lower cost later on.

I personally didn't think it was as bad as described in the review. People need to remember that a review is one persons opinion and nothing more. You have also got to keep in mind the set up that reviewers use as well.

That could be a problem. Because what it is, is a dull, poorly acted tonally flat money grab. I was interested in the visual spectacle this would provide, hoping it may overcome the fact that it is a poor film, but without even that going for it then this whole endeavour was a huge missed opportunity.

Well I liked the movie at the cinema in 2d and like it even more now after watching it in 3d with Atmos. It was a visual spectacle. Not too sure how you stand on 3d but to me this movie was made with 3d in mind, not hdr, after what I've just watched. Just my opinion though.

Watched it at the weekend on UHD (saw it twice at the cinema - IMAX)
The transfer is definitely the directors intentions, I'd argue there isn't a single scene that doesn't benefit from either HDR or WCG it's just very subtle, this ain't Pacific Rim & probably not something you'd use as demo material to show off the benefits of 4K etc.
but in terms of a gorgeous cinematic filmic look and showing off the beautiful cinematography it's a great disc in my opinion.
But just adjust your expectations, it's not bright or garish. It's a much more dim affair.

Fair enough, we all have our own take. Maybe my expectations were set too high when I went to see it. I was very disappointed. I saw it in 2D.

Thanks for the review Cas,but will still probably buy it in UHD,maybe wait till it hits the £20/or 2 for £30 :)

I have seen another review that rave about the UHD P/Q,but its good to have different views on theses things :smashin:

That's one way to look at it, It is not terrible but very little use of HDR and the peak brightness available. I can see what Cas meant, compared to what I have seen recently this could be mistaken for the BR. However detail was pretty fantastic, Great AQ also.

I am willing to bet a lot of members here have very similar setups to Cas, His set is actually the one up from my KS7000, And the 8500 must be the most popular spinner on the forum!

Is there anything much better for HDR though? I am not saying the KS range are "the best" but they are pretty amazing. You can see from the first few minutes that the film is meant to be dull, Which is just a bit odd.

I was expecting something to better Pacific Rim, A real retina burner! Some glimpses of HDR do come through, Very subtle but the seams on a jacket SJ is wearing really pop.

Tbh if you'd put in the standard BD and told me it was the UHD version I'd struggle to tell the difference. Think I was expecting a stunning clear vivid picture but it's just ok. Agree that it has a kinda dull overall picture. The atmos was good but not incredible. Film was good, but just that. So overall it's getting a MEH from me.
Will re watch quite soon to see if my opinion changes any.
Ive got a feeling the new Bladerunner movie will be everything this should have been. Roll on October.

The 3D Blu-ray is outstanding along with 3D based sound with atmos would be amazing. But I don't have an atmos set up so just plain true HD 7.1 sound and that was really impressive...I still don't know what to do about atmos in my living room,I currently have a 7.3 surround sound system..ceiling speakers are a no go as I live in a rented house...but I have heard mixed feelings on upfiring speaker's...I think I need to go for a demo too see what my options are.

I'm a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve. He's not afraid of reigning in a films pallette if you've seen Arrival. I'm hoping he goes completely the other way for Blade Runner.

I have yet to see anything on UHD 4K that is significantly better than the bluray counterpart. In fact I am convinced that some bluray releases are ' down scaled' to make the 4K UHD version look more detailed in comparison.

The one exception, however is Bly Lynn's halftime walk which has fabulous detail, and colour at60fps. Downside is poor film and 'false' look at times.

I would agree that many UHDs have been underwhelming. Although John Wick 2 and Pacific Rim remind me that when it's done right the format can be sensational.

I think it's the lack of a true 4k resolution and more of them being 2k with HDR and a wider colour gaumet it does seem very half arsed effort that comes at a cost...Blu-ray still reigns supreme as the upscaling abilities on the latest tvs and Blu-ray players can look great...but this is coming from someone who still really enjoys watching 3D Blu-ray films and I like to make it an event.Another thing that baffles me is that for years we have been told that we need to calibrate our tvs too get the best out of them instead of running them flat out...when I watch any content with dolby vision or HDR everything is cranked up to the max...HDR was and still is in my eyes better for photography where a still image looks amazing with HDR...moving images seem too tell a different story.

As a lover of Blade Runner I've tried, really hard, to like Ghost in The Shell in its anime form but just been unable to (lip sync issues on my DVD didn't help but I just don't like snipes style?).

Would still have loved to watch this but thanks to your review and the soso trailer I'm left thinking meh?

There is also a theme here of reviews stating that some may prefer the Blu Ray version? In a world where the vast majority seem content with Now TV at 720p (tad fuzzy in my humble) or DVD (very fuzzy on a 7 foot screen) and haven't even made the jump to Blu (or claim not to notice the difference) being offered a premium format with so little going for it strikes me as niche in the extreme.

I'm presently more than happy with 1080p Netflix and Blu rays (the latter now being available for no money second hand) and issues like this Ultra Hi Def Film just serve to confirm my bias.

Have we reached the point where Blu Ray is to be honest good enough for the vast majority with its excellent sound and vision?

DVD still outsells blu ray. So going by that 480 is good enough for most people. Personally I'll take the best I can get.
