Just released in Japan is the original Ghost in the Shell from Mamoru Oshii on UHD. The sequel - Innocence - is out too.

They're both upscales unfortunately but given how bad the UK BDs are they may well still be an upgrade. Japanese discs are usually mastered to different black floors however so they could very well be washed out on UK TVs. (The UK BD had this very problem).

Like all physical media in Japan, the price is bracing.

Interesting to see just how awful the BDs are up close. The new "UHD" appears to have DNR set to 11, but it's still incredibly soft and lacking in detail. These great movies deserve much better.

Yes. Looks like they filtered out all the fine grain completely. This should please all the grain haters.
