The other day I noticed some rumbling coming from the sub (stadium III)
It's left permanently on but was not in use at the time and the amp was off.

It was as if there was a loose connection causing feedback.
I checked all the connections, they were all ok and I could not recreate any noises by moving them about or unconnecting/reconnecting etc.
It was intermitent and only lasted for a few minutes. I think it has happened before but I have previously put it down to my kids tv/music upstairs.

I may be clutching at straws here, but it coincided with the onset of some stormy weather. Could some kind of static electricity have caused it.

Dude, its haunted. Call in the exorsists (sp) NOW!!! ;)
but seriously, if it were electrical interference from a storm, the surely the other speakers in your system would be doing it to, right? so that only leaves a problem with the sub.

If the cables to it are in loops then they might be acting as an aerial. Its a consideration in laying out electrically initiated demolitions and in that field is known as 'RF Hazard'. Doubtless it applies to all sorts of radio and electrical equipment.

Or maybe you just need to feed it more often. :D

    Latest on my sub.
The low grumbling went from being intermitent to all the time.
This actually made it easier to experiment with connections etc and to also look at Binbags suggestion.
However, the noise continued even when placed in the middle of the room and with both amp leads disconnected. Just the power on. At least it showed it wasn't an amp problem.
So it went back to the dealer yesterday, I forgot how much it weighed but I miss it already.

    Update.
Noooooh, got a call from the dealer yesterday and heard the dreaded words "seems ok to us, we can't hear it rumbling"
I think I've convinced him that I'm not making it up. He is going to contact Rel on monday to see if they will swap it out.

I don't know much aboutt his but have you tried a mains filter? I have really crap 'brown' outs here. We are at the end of the line preceded by a Farm with high power usage. I have to have a power filter/battery backup for my PC as we get dips in current from time to time.

I haven't gone to the expense of doing this for the HT kit but I know I should... too many electrical things in this house go 'pop' a bit too often

Good idea. I don't know why but I hadn't thought of this.
If I get no joy from Rel I'll give it a go. Cheers
