I think I have decided a new plasma set-up, originally I was going to wait for a 50" PW8 or Fujitsu but I can't wait that long

    I have decided:
    42" PWD7 screen
New DVD player Samsung HD745 - component in
    Use s-video for xbox
    Buy RGB>VGA for digital box
    Get ISF'd after 200 hours

I will run this set-up for a couple of years until we get hi-def then get a 50" and put the 42" in the bedroom ;)

Is this DVD player good for the money - I will probably get a HD one when I upgrade the screen
Is s-video a good choice for Xbox

This seems the most sensible option - any comments?

I'd recommend using RGB Scart for Xbox, i noticed you;ve listed RGB>VGA for your digi box, wouldn't be much more of an outlay to get a scart switch box and convert that to VGA. The picture quality on the Scart would be much better in my opinion

Pioneer DVD575 is very good on component and can be got for buttons these days. Dont see the point in paying more for Samsung which has HDMI if you are unlikely to use it. I'd also get a look at the new sd panny PE50 before buying the panel setup you suggest as its a real step up in PQ IMHO. As you intend to use it for a bedroom later on down the line the PE50 37" can be had for under £1500 if QED electricals are to believed. Add up the boards and RGB converter etc and price difference is very little for a such a good picture

    I completely agree with pwood.

If you look at one of my posts on the PE50, I too find that the new Panasonic is a big step-up in picture quality.

I don't know why anyone wants to bother with a PW7 when the new Viera is here at a similar or cheaper price. (the claptrap I've read on this forum at some time or another about it being difficult to wallmount the Viera, about it not really being in stock, about it being bulkier and less attractive than a PW7, about it probably having some picture issues which will be discovered in a few weeks, about it not being any different in picture quality to the old series...well, let's just say these 'experts' are looking after their own interests, not ours the customers...)

42PE50 for £1670 at QED already, and it will get lower...
