Is that all Synology or ones after a certain date?

To get this within a budget I will need to buy one that's a few years old.

Note that it only does that if you're using their own type of RAID that I mentioned called SHR in this post - Getting rid of a HTPC - Options.
This means you only have 3 of your 4 discs available for storage. If you're using disks of various sizes then whatever your largest disk is, is not available to use as it is the redundant drive, until you have another of the same capacity, then you get the full use of one of the larger disks.

Either that or you're using JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) which any decent NAS should do.
