Excellent thanks Casimir. I switched on part of episode 1 and looked good so downloaded it on the Sky box. Justified is one of my favourite tv shows, who doesn't love Boyd Crowder?

Great review Cas.
Never knew about this at all so it's a nice surprise and feel another binge coming soon.
The movie was great in it's day and with the cast in this and quality production it's a WIN WIN!

Thanks :D

Thanks for the review Cas. This is one I'm very apprehensive about. I must admit I've not read the original novel but I love the film and it's difficult to imagine an on going tv series of it. I might give it a go after all.

Tidy review Cas.
The buddy story of Miles and Louis is great stuff, with a depth ranging from the dark comedy in situational life, to touching friendship and onto crazy violence. And it's that friendship which seals it for me in this. Sure, Miles' journey quest to make a go in a noncriminal life to secure his wife and daughter is the drive behind this but, as ever, it's the fallout that makes this truly worthwhile.
Amara, played by the excellently flesh creeping Lidia Porto, is something else. The way she's written and manages to portray a worldly sense of damaged sensibility one minute and then outright fear inducing evil the next is truly mind bending at times. Romano as her witless love interest has some of the most twisted love scenes I've ever witnessed on screen. And lest we forget the Louis with Gladys 'religious' scenes!
You know, I must watch the film again as it's been a minute.

Good to hear this. Get Shorty is one of my favourite film's, and I was convinced this TV adaptation would be a total disaster. However I'll now add it to the list!

At least this review won’t cost me any extra money, unlike your 4K disc ones, Cas!

Seen an ad for this last night and did a double take when I noticed O’Dowd. Will add it to my queue.

Good review Cas, I agree with everything you've said. I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, was really not expecting it to be that good. If the rest of the series is as good it will certainly make a fine show. The lead pair are a great casting.

For a change the sound quality on Sky is pretty good as well, the centre channel dialogue crisp and clear, although there is a long way to go.

I've just watched 30 mins of this and it's not grabbing me. I should give it longer, but juggling too many other shows right now so will leave it for the time being and try again at a later date.

I love Chris O'Dowd in the IT Crowd, when he answered the phone in this all I could hear was "have you tried turning it off and on again", I dont actually recall what was really said.

I've seen in other things in which he was pretty good but it'll be a little difficult to accept him in this.

Nice review Cas - love the original Get Shorty, and was not aware a TV series had been created.

*PEDANT mode* Do you mean Barry Sonnenfeld rather than Barry Levinson?:D *Pedant mode* :D

Shouldn't that be */PEDANT MODE*?!

While I liked this a lot & I'm looking forward to the second season, the only similarity to either the book or film is a very basic 'criminal tries to get into the movie business' plot.

I get that there's a name recognition factor in using the Get Shorty title, but I don't really understand why you would obtain the rights to such a great book & then change almost everything about it, including the lead character.

Yeah Gotta absolutely agree with your review.
Already on episode 5 and guilty of slipping in one after another.
Same here, now on Episode 6 and really enjoying it. Also, completely agree with what @encaser said about the bromance between Miles and Louis and also the Amara character is very well written and acted.
