      Hi there

I live in the UK, but you can buy the LG OLED65W7V in Germany for about 4000 EUR, which is a pretty hefty saving on the UK price of £7000. The company that sells at that price (MediaMarkt) won't deliver, but I'm thinking of ordering one for collection and driving across to Western Germany to pick up - it's only about 350 miles from London so worth it for the saving.

Does anyone have experience of using German LG screens in the UK? I guess the most important question is whether the tuners for DVB and DBS are the same?

I've asked LG as well but thought I'd see if anyone here had any experience.

      Cheers
      Jamie

I am also keen to know if any Dutch/German/French tv works well in U.K.
For your info, some people in oled thread reported prices as low as 3000 euros for w7. Crazy !!!

Yeah that's an even better price isn't it.

I read the thread - it sounded like that was the kind of deal you might have to be popping into the store regularly for, or at least communicating with them regularly to find out when they have stock. Possibly a bit more difficult unless you speak German.

I imagine if that kind of price is possible over there then there will be some deep discounts on this screen over here eventually as well. Perhaps not until next year though.

      Cheers

I think the sets have a selection of digital standards built in and thus will work in most locations.....however, I'm more concerned about why these sets have suddenly become so cheap? No other sets in the range have any appreciable difference in price between the UK and Germany.

Yes it's very cheap isn't it. What I don't know is whether they have always been this cheap in Germany or if this is a recent price drop.

Hopefully it bodes well for UK price reductions - I'd rather buy here if I can. I know the W7 is a premium product, but paying nearly 3 times more for the same panel is probably not sustainable. Perhaps they're not selling...

      Cheers

In terms of physical material costs the W7 should be the cheapest. I don't think it will be long before this form factor is the only one available, assuming they are robust enough. 2 years maybe.

Sorry but it doesn’t make sense that a flagship tv is sold so low when a similarly sized e7 and g7 cost still much more!!??
I don’t believe in Santa and must be a logical explanation somewhere. I just don’t see it yet...

Bet they’re not selling. LG probably still not seen as a reliable premium brand in Germany for the kind of people who would drop 7k on a TV.

Must be more tellys than theyd like in stock with the 2017model sticker in corner of ad windows.
The price gap is worrying though and a bit annoying to tell you the truth.

The panels are the same across the range, the price differences are mostly price segmentation. LG will need to decide whether to introduce the wallpaper design lower down the range for the 2018 lineup. My guess is that this is a marketing exercise to gauge real demand for wallpaper tvs. When it's priced very high it's difficult to tell.

I got a response from LG about whether a W7V bought in Germany would be usable in the UK, and they said this:

"After looking into your query, you will be able to use the TV in the UK.

The only thing with the TV being manufactured in Germany you will not have the access to all of the smart applications. You will have some applications you will be able to use but like the catch up TV for UK won’t be available. Amazon and Netflix will be available for you.

All other functions will be able to work. Just double check the power supply volt on the back of the TV isn’t too powerful for UK plugs."

So it looks like, apart from the region-based catch-up apps, it will be fine. I won't be using any of those so this is good news for me.

      Cheers

UNLESS you going back to Germany for friends and family, you can get similar deal from Belgium and France...much closer and done in a day drive from south east.
I just wish I had a car with a massive boot or a van. The deals are unbelievable
Should not be a problem with custom

living in Germany , but relocating back to UK in 2018 I am keen to make sure any purchase (getting v close to deciding) is UK compatible, and it would be nice to have catch up on the TV apps , surely this is just software related , nothing to do with the hardware , if I tell the TV its in the UK , then surely it would install the correct apps for the UK. I know catch up will not work whilst in DE , due to geo restrictions, but when the TV ends up back at UK IP address then surely it would be OK , PS v tempted by local (2 hour) drive offer on the Sony A1 , 55 inch for 2250 Euro .....

I couldn't find any deals in Belgium or France for this screen. MediaMarkt also operate in Belgium and the price from them is 7999 EUR. I checked out FNAC in France and they didn't seem to stock it.

Can you let me know of a specific retailer offering this in Belgium or France? Anything nearer than Germany would be better for me. As you say, customs won't be a problem.

      Cheers

I suspect it is firmware related yes. With my Onkyo AV processor there are ways to "change" the region by downloading specific firmware for the country you want and manually flashing the EPROM.

Maybe the same is possible with the LG.

I live in Germany and changed the "country" in my LG 910 OLED to different ones after I bought it, to see what would happen (basically to try using the Italian Rai and UK's BBC players).

If I remember correctly after a quick reboot you get the default apps for the specific countries in the main app bar but the other settings, like wi-fi and custom picture values, were kept untouched.

So yes, seems like a FW only change.

Adding that if you look at the specs for the receiver part on the respective LG pages (UK/Germany) for the OLED65W7V you get the same:

      Tuner Empfangsdaten*
      DVB-T2 HD Ja
      DVB-S2 Ja
      DVB-C Ja
      HbbTV Ja
      Analog Ja

      Broadcasting System Digital
      TV Reception(Terrestrial,Cable,Satellite) DVB-T2/C/S2 (Main/Sub)

PS "Ja" is a "Yes" :)

Dammit - the price on the German MediaMarkt site is now back up at 7999 EUR.

Hopefully it will be a repeated promo.

Same as the one you have seen..
I am just assuming that a Belgium media markt will be able to match a promotion run by a German or Dutch colleague !!!

Fnac or Darty will rarely do top promotion but worth keeping an eye...

Media markt seems to be THE PLACE for deals !!!

Ah it's good to know that you've seen them come and go and it wasn't a one off. Will let you know if they come back down in price and I can find stock. The MediaMarkt website seemed to suggest that most of those Western German stores (Aachen, Koln, Essen etc) had stock, but I don't know reliable that indicator is.

I see a new one sold from a German eBay dealer last night for 4k EUR and they would ship to the UK, so there are other methods as well: have to do your due diligence on the seller though.

      Cheers

Yeh I agree, it's basically an OLED panel wrapped in cheap plastic. If they just used a small one connect box it would be perfect. Keeping the electronics separate might really help with replacement and refurbishment of broken units too.

For European TVs you normally just select your country and the tuner parameters and Apps specific to your area get loaded automatically.

Apparently the warranty is only valid within the country it's purchased.
So if the TV has issues it's going to a nightmare sorting it out.

Yes that it a good point - I'm going to ask LG if they will honour the warranty on a German screen brought into England.

What are prices on 65"? Just to chime in if no problem with customs bringing a few back I would also go in on renting a van and going up there for the right price.

As far as I know, the deals are pop up deals, and vary from store to store, my brother who lives in Switzerland had told me he had seen them for 4000 euro but that only lasted 2 weeks in October, also a few others have reportedly picked up a w7 for 3000 euro but I haven't seen any proof in that!
having said that I had purchased my LG 65g6 from john lewis for £3500 towards the end of june, recently sold it with the intention of buying larger 77inch, but now having a real life comparison between 2016 & 2017 sets, there is a clear difference in picture quality.
when the prices drop to the 4000 mark here I will certainly buy a 2017 model, either a 65w7 or G7.

4000 for the 65w seems a very good price, hard to imagine them getting much cheaper even when next year's models are on the horizon
