Is there such as thing as a generic hard-disk recorder without any subscriptions - just a VCR like device which records to a hard disk instead of tape?
If this device was networkable and recorded into a standard format (MPEG-2/4) that would be even better.
I'd like to be able to archive onto VCD. I know I could use my PC for this - but it is a not an ideal solution and not as reliable as a dedicated piece of hardware.
My other consideration was using a DVD+RW recorder, but I would not have the flexibility or storage of a hard disk recorder.
