General brightness/contrast settings for PC monitors?

Hi,

I've just bought an LG w2361v monitor to use with my Xbox 360 and need a little help with setting the brightness and contrast.

It arrived with a default Brightness 100, Contrast 70.

Now, my Samsung A656 TV seems to behave much differently to the monitor when adjusting brightness and contrast.

On a TV, I'd have something like 98 Contrast, 45 Brightness but the controls seem to work differently on the monitor.

I'm struggling to get good black levels though this may be because I'm used to the TV.

Should I adjust the contrast or leave as it is? I'm thinking maybe dropping the brightness to 70/80 and leaving the contrast.

Any general tips on monitor setups?

It's probably best to leave the contrast where it is, most monitors ship with it properly set with no fake contrast boosting applied. Brightness should be whatever you find comfortable to use.

If you've got a good TV then the ~1000:1 contrast on the monitor will be worse than what you're used to.
