You can use a small flat head screwdriver no problem on these tri-head screws.

I really don't recommend you do it yourself - the results are just too hit & miss at best. I am experienced in doing this type of thing and did quite a few when the Afterburner first came out. However, once in a while the install just ended up a flipping mess. For the most part they were good, I even managed to get one perfect but it's just not worth it mate.

Put simply, you need a clean-room environment to achieve high success rates but even with this, dust is inevitable. Perhaps I was too picky but one or two specks of dust was more annoying than you might think. You might even decide to do it yourself because of the fun and sense of achievment. Believe me though, installing the Afterburner is anything but fun. It's just plain annoying.

You would be better off flogging your GBA and Afterburner seperately, then buy the new GBA SP - out next month on import :).

To be honest I'm half glad you said that - I was looking for an excuse not to do it - I was given the afterburner from a mate.

I think I will take your advice and sell it.

When is the new GB out and is it available online to order?

    Thanks groundy :)

The new GBA SP is out Feb 14th (I think) in Japan. I have one on pre-order from http://www.ncsx.com. £95 all in after delivery :). The UK version is out on March 28th and will retail for £89.95.

There is no region protection on the GBA so a JAP one is a good as any. However you will need to use a stepdown to recharge the battery pack - at least until the UK recharger is available upon UK release. Then you should be able to just swap over the AC charger.

Another good place for stuff like this is lik-sang.com. I need to get a bit to open my Snes Metroid cartridge as the battery has died :(
