If you care the GB Micro is coming to UK on Nov 4th 2005 for a (my opinion) hefty £70, available in silver, pink, green and blue

    http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/news/article.do?elementId=2Z0isTa2OGFltG6wY0UZ6uHZstm0brlm

And blue and pink iterations of DS coming to UK on Oct 7th

    http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/news/article.do?elementId=9njHoNv5dpnCm-P9-d5EEwbZ_FqWsTcK

I for one am getting a PSP. So why am I posting this?
    a)providing a service
    b) I have a SP and am hacked off Nintendo can put a headphone port into Micro but not SP in the 1st place. Yes they prob used xtra year to implement tech and make tech smaller but really....
c)discuss Nintendo V Sony in portable console terms

Please keep it clean and no childish insults

70 for what is essentially a 5 year old console in a new case? No thank you. I said back when it was announced that there was no way I would be getting one unless it was around 60euro. As it stands, it's closer to double that. Not a hope, Nintendo. Wait for 2 years when they release the GBA Eye Implant.

I'm actually warming to the idea of a GB Micro (even though I already have a GBA and GBA SP!) However, wouldn't want to pay more than £50 for it!

TBH I wouldn't pay more than £30 for the micro. Even then I probably wouldn't use it. Waste of time IMHO.

I can't see Nintendo shifting them for that price, there'll be a few buy them on release but after that I can't see anyone shelling out £70 for one :nono:

Even though I love new gadgets and the micro does have better contrast and all, I really doubt I would play on it! It is basically a GBA and I already have 3 if you count the DS.

The screen is also smaller than the GBA and the GBA SP.

Suppose it would be handy to keep in your back pocket and have a quick blast on the bus or wherever.

    Good for kids me thinks.
I remember the days when my parents would make me go shopping with them and I would sit bored while my mum would try stuff on.
I remember thinking " I would kill to have a portable SNES!!!"

It's a good idea as it's so small that you can just carry it around in your pocket without it being intrusive. The likes of the DS and PSP are massive compared and although you can squeeze them into a pocket, you are constantly conscious of them. It's a handheld that you could always have with you but I agree that the price is too steep. I think that £40 - £50 would be top end for something like this.

You can't blame Nintendo for trying......

But if Nintendo have perfected the GBA tech to the size of the Micro, which includes GB and GB colour tech......

Imagine what they will do for the GBA 2. I imagine they will go back to a conventional size, as well as a larger screen to compete with the PSP. But I don't expect it to surface for 2-3 years

The real question is that will they ditch cartridges in favour of optical disc for the GBA 2. Imo if they don't, they'll risk losing ground to Sony's PSP in the coming years.

They'll design a console that can use GBA and DS carts for backwards compatibility....

But the main storage for the games will be gamecube discs. You heard it from me first ;)

I hope not, who wants loading times on a portable? I only have a few games on my current gen consoles that have loading times and it drives me insane. what do you need 1.5 gigs for anyway, Ocarina of time for the N64 takes up 32MB of space with the DS current max cartridge size being 256MB not bad if you ask me.

Very true. It’s one of the main reasons I haven’t bought a PSP… yet! :)

Loading times have never really bothered me much to be honest. The loading times on the PSP for example are very short (at least on the games I own - Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Lumines, Ape Escape & Darkstalkers). Perhaps it's because I grew up in the days of the Speccy and tapes that a 10 second wait doesn't bother me that much but I find it more than acceptable with the result being bigger & more indepth games IMO.

Ah the real days of loading, Shadow Warriors on the C64 took about 10 minuted load each level, they were only about 2 minutes long! :)

Indeed, kids don't know that they are born these days with these CD's & DVD's. Can you imagine people waiting 20 mins for a game to load only for it to crash at the last bit. Back in our day we calmly got out the trusty screwdriver, fiddled with the tape head, adjusted the volume and tone controls and tried again. Finally after 2 hours you got the game loaded and the sense of achievement was amazing! We all used to be sat motionless in silence so as to not cause any vibrations that may cause the I/O Loading error screen to come up.

Nowadays people get upset with a 10-20 second loading time - where has our patience gone  .

    I don't mind 20-30 sec loading times...

If it was any longer, I wouldn't have pre-ordered a PSP....plus developers are getting there, e.g

Tiger Woods '05 PSP - 30-40 sec load times
Tiger Woods '06 PSP - 10 sec or less

I remember these days so well. I can’t believe how patient we were back then, nowadays everything has to be delivered yesterday. I remember trying to load a game on my speccy 4/5 times trying to get it to load. The good old days… ;)

Indeed - I used to have to set aside a good evening sometimes trying to get a game to work. There was always a really awkward one that you could just about get loaded and would keep coming back to try with different tape recorders etc. I used to have 2 portable tape recorders and my twin dec hi fi to try and load games from. some games would load on one and not on the others. As fresh and exciting as they were, there are things about the good old days that I don't miss ;) .

Indeed - used to love the way you could chuck the bad guys off the platform and give them a couple of extra blows whilst they were on the floor! I loved the Speccy version of this - actually prefer it to the arcade version.

Target Renegade was better though - an absolute classic!

I'm selling my old Commodore Amiga A500+ in the classifieds if any of the newbies want to play some of the finest games of the 90s. :)

    Hello :hiya:

Just out of interest, does anybody know if the price of the GBA SP is going to drop anytime soon? I've been hankering after an SP but I don't want to spend £70 on one if the price is going to come down in a few weeks' time...what with the PSP and the GameBoy Micro just over yonder hill...

    Cheers,

    Skyav

the SP price? Dunno. Suppose Nintendo will milk the price for as long as poss. Till the micro launch? Have you tried online or eBay?
