I'm about to buy a plasma and have a chimney breast in my front room that is crying out for it to be mounted on. However, i have a working gas fire directly beneath where the plasma would be.

I know it's pretty much common sense that you shouldn't put the plamsa there or don't use the fire but I wondered if, for whatever reason, it was possible for both to co exist.

    Thoughts?

There a specific gas fires engineered to push heat out into the room and not just warm the mantle..... Having installed many aplasma over a working fireplace it is not a huge issue although we stress not to use both at the same time. Most domestic plasmas are passively cooled (ie no fans) so if you push hot air up the back of them they loose cooling ability and can overheat, but as long as your sensible should not be a major problem.

Get some BBQ sauce for your plasma. Or you could try smearing some sun blocker on the glass front ..
