any advice ?

Due to moving in soon with the gf I won't have room for my desktop. So need to go portable.

Found a decent Alienware 15r3 one for just short shy of £1450 i7-6700 6th gen (gtx1070, 32gb, 256ssd/1tbhdd and a g sync screen 1080p)

Then 1060 spec is about £100 less. It has £600 of rrp as it's the last gen processor.

Reason for the 32gb ram is I do a lot of VMware stuff so need it for that.

Is it ok that its only 6tg gen i7 and not the latest one ?

I'd question if a 15" screen is enough. We moved house 3 years ago and I had exactly the same situation. Didn't want a bulky desktop setting up amywhere so moved to a laptop.

Custom made an i7 with an 8970m at pcscpecialst, 17" screen and glad I went for that size. It's still doing well despite its age and whilst it may not play games in ultra it still runs them. Coped fine with witcher 3 in medium and just recently mass effect andromeda

Yea I was thinking that as well. Currently using a 27" dell 1440 res screen. And a drop to 15" and 1080 may me be to much.

You'll be a lot closer to the screen, so the resolution difference may not be so noticeable.
It all depends how portable you want it to be. If it's just going to sit in one place, then you could go 17", but i doubt you would get it for the same price.

I also have a 15" laptop for work and it just seems tiny, obviously I don't game on that but I have now had to setup a study and have a docking station and monitor in order to work on it.

Do take a look at pcspecialist, they have some good setups and I found the aftercare good too, my blu ray write died after about 8 months, a quick email and replacement was sent out very quickly.

Also they do have parts available, after 3 years my battery is lacking a little which is to be expected but I know I can source a replacement there easily enough

This all day long. If you're going to blowing the best part of £1500 on a gaming laptop, a 17" screen is an absolute must. I was looking at the Dell Outlet store last Friday and they had some decent deals there, on the Alienware's.

The 17" with 1070's and 1080's, 16 or 32GB RAM were a similar price to what you found the 15" at around £1500. Also one or two had 4K and 3K screens. Can't remember if they had VAT included but it might be worth a look.

That being said, Alienware are horrendously overpriced and you might be best buying a similarly specced machine from an alternative manufacturer. There is a 17" MSI in the classifieds which is a pretty good spec.

I have looked and found none of the manufactures can match the higher spec alienware stuff. in terms of the price and spec, esp with the outlet taking into account.

The outlet randomly has 10 - 20% off vouchers which make it a good deal.

I also took advantage of the outlet deal. Got a i7 gtx 1070 15r3 with 120 htz upgraded panel for under £1150. Going to use it as a second gaming PC for my man cave.
