Gaming: JL & PV500 V's PHD8 & AV-Sales

After months and months of research and deliberation, this is what is has come down to. Here are the pro's and con's as i see them, can anyone think of any more?

JL + PV500

Price: £2300ish when price matched.

Service: 5 year guarantee, generally respected.

Product: All in one, includes HDMI, no need for extra boards, built in speakers, no need to play with amp when just flicking the TV on, but i have 5.1 already. Great quality screen, no need for cabinet as i already have a reasonable AV stand,

AV Sales + PHD 8

Price: £2600 including 5 year warranty and scart + RCA component board

Service: respected

Product: Great monitor, but no HDMI built in, and no speakers, although the speakers part isnt such a great loss for me.

The CONCLUSION:

Is the quality of display between these panels that different? Is it worth the extra outlay? i will be using Sky+, next and current gen games consoles and DVD.

what do you guys think?

I believe the picture on the PHD8 would be better, but not enough so that I would probably notice it, Im sure you would be really happy either way.

I'm also trying to decide between the two. I prefer the look of the PHD8 but the PV500 would be the simpler, better value option. Also, I asked AV-Sales for a quote on Monday but they haven't got back to me :(

From what I've read on here I don't believe that there's actually a difference in the panels used in each model. The issues with image retention and/or screen burn and the visible line are slightly worrying but there are plenty of people who seem really pleased with their PV500.

I think I'll just ring JL tomorrow and see if the pedestal stands have finally arrived...

ive got a pv500 which weather the retailer likes it or not is being returned. it has the buzzing fault and the image retention.another problem with these panels is the overscan and the lack of being able to adjust it. upon my refund i will be contacting av-sales for one of their finest phd8.

Are you only getting overscan on PC input? The PHD8 has a button on the remote that corrects overscan straight away apparently.

Its a no brainer. The PQ on the PHD8 is better and the PV500 doesn't allow you to adjust overscan (though it is just possible that I may have a means of doing so - untried so far).

Thanks again Piers, i think the intrest free credit might sway me too, and to be honest, i cant see myself using HDMI for the forseeable future.

Piers how do you think overscan could be achieved with the pv500?

Bump.

Anybody ran the PHD8 on xbox using the high def kit at progressive scan or 720p/1080i yet?

Just interested to here any results as the primary reason i will be buying this screen is the xbox 360.
