Gamestation trade ins

I won't be going back again. Took over G in tonight (1 week old) as i was planning to trade it against Prey or LORBFM. They offered me £26 trade
and the games they sell are £49.99. What a rip off. I asked for cash value as i thought i could nip up to tesco and buy for £39.99, that was until he offered £15 cash. Told him where to go. Why the hell are these places charging £49.99 a game? Who in there right mind is going to spend that when you can pick them up almost everywhere for £39. No suprise i was the only customer in there. Anyway, i left and let the 2 lads behind the counter get back to their DS lites Wi fi game that i rudley interupted. Honestly

these shops will end up disappearing I think due to their prices. it's only the trade ins that keep them going I think. I always buy from Tecos and on-line now. £50 for a game is robbery - at least Dick Turpin wore a mask

With the recent explosion of Asda, Tesco etc etc Pre-Owned is where the Games and Gamestations make their money.

Unfortunatly June and July is a terrible month for Games stores so they have to maximise profits as much as they can therefore Give the guys there a break

I would never use these stores to buy new or to do a trade in ever again!! I only buy pre-owned now and then if it's not available on play-asia or ebay cheaper!!

Unfortunatley these guys have to pay high rates to be on the high street so I guess they have to make their money somehow :(

Seem to be more and more of these places shutting down, I wonder why?? :)

Remember Asda and Tesco can afford to sell the games at a lower price due to being able to make money back in other areas, the same cant really be said for places like Game and Gamestation as games are their business and they have to make a profit on them.

Saying that I would never pay £50 for a game, infact I have yet to pay over £35 for a brand new 360 game.

I went with Madden, Kameo, Top Spin 2 and Animal Crossing DS and Gamestation offered me £65 where as Game offered £75. It's worth checking out both shops. Their prices are rubbish though and I wouldn't trade in for other games due to the price they charge. In this instance I ended up trading the 3 360 games for about £60 towards a DS Lite and Animal Crossing DS + £10 for New Super Mario as that was a special deal they had on.

Where do you buy then? Play Asia's obviosly a lot cheaper so you aren't referring that price to them, and i thought the majority of sellers here, online or supermarket were £39.99, bar the odd couple of quid difference here and there...

So out of interest, where do you get yours if £35 is the most you've spent, or do you buy games when they've been out a while?

Well the first 5 games I got at launch I pre-ordered from Amazon when they were £29.99 each and all the others I have got with help of £5 vouchers or pre-ordering them when website were having offers.

I only buy the second hand games from these places. They normally go for £30 - £35. Just because i dont get to peel off the wrapper saves me £20. Just have to wait a week or before i buy one. Never had a bad one yet. There is truely no need to pay £50 for a game.

To be honest pretty much all of my games have been £35 or less. The only ones i've paid over that for were a couple I got using money from a Game gift card. :)

If you shop around there are always deals about :smashin:.

Slightly off topic but not worth another post...

If I go into Game or Gamestation to buy the 360 Premium pack with a new game, do you think they will chuck some stuff in for free or at a reduced priced?

I'm thinking about asking them to throw in a VGA cable and get some money of a pre-owned game or something. Or a a Live subscrition maybe.

I always do this when I buy snowboard or bmx stuff so I'm hoping I can haggle a bit when it comes to buying the 360 too.

* visions of Life Of Brian *

"Burt! This bloke won't haggle!"

"Won't haggle?!"

"Look at it. Feel the quality. That's none of your goat."

and so on...

It's a nice idea, but to be honest i don't think the people working in the shops have the freedom to stike out their own deals (other than price comparison etc).

I think their hands are tied by corporate market pricing etc...

£26 is not such a bad price for a second hand game that you can get new for £10 more than that. Ebay would get you more if you sell there. Don't forget that GAMESTATION will match any other trade in. I got £20 for RidgeRacer6 last week, buy telling them GAME paid that.

Actually £26 isnt good as for all they know i could have paid £49 from them the week prior to this? The fact that i picked it up for £39.99 from tesco is irrelevant to what they offered. If they charged £39.99 for a brand new game then i would agree with you but they dont. I checked there pre-owned titles they had. They would re-sell Over G for £39.99 (normal high street price). If i had taken there £26 trade i would still have to pay £23 for LOTBFM from them. Either way i think its a rip off and dont intend to go back again.

What you may or may not have paid has no relevance on the resell or trade in price at all.

That's fair enough if you think the trade in value is not high enough.

To be frank 26 quid seems quite good to me, As others have stated all games are avalible for 39.99 or less, So they can only charge say around 32 pounds second hand selling it on, If you paid 49.99 thats your fault, Tesco and Asda is down the road from most of us and if you live in the middle of a wood you have the internet so no excuse really is there?

whats the beef? 26 notes is top dollar for a trade, just cos they sell it for 40 quid that dont mean they actually make £14 profit, thay have to pay taxes on when buying the games in as well as 17.5% when they sell them out.

I mean game / gamestation cant be everything too everyone, they provide a good service to those who want service (at a premium). I know most people on here wouldn't think of going into a chain to buy a game due to the price, but these are the people who dont need assistance with their purchase.

at the end of the day if game /gamestation do shut down due to there prices not being as good as the supermarkets then whos to say that the supermarkets will stay below rrp? afterall at the moment they use games as a high value luxury item loss leader to entice people into their shops, now if they were the only ones left selling them then they wouldnt have to entice people with them being cheap as they will be the only ones selling them.

just my thoughts.

To be fair £26 is not bad if you are trading against a £40 game but your not. You are trading against a £50 game. That doesn't seem worth it to me.
TBH i was expecting £33 trade as thats what i got from Gamestation for Kameo in January 06 almost 2 months after release of the 360/game

No beef and no harm done. Sorry if it came across that way. I was typing quickly at the in-laws ;)

I would try Blockbuster video - they offer a better trade-in price if you buy from them instead of getting cash. Plus any credit left over on your membership card you can use to rent or buy DVD's!

my faith has been restored in gamestation today, sort of. I picked up a DS Lite with new mario games for £109. Not a bad deal TBH.
