All these games that get updated every year are normally complete tosh (apart from a select few), what are your thoughts on games that never got a sequel but should of from the yesteryear? these are my choices

Speedball (Amiga / ST)
Sam and Max (which has been cancelled why???????) (PC)
Full Throttle (PC)
Operation Stealth (Amiga / ST)
Bak 2 Skool and Skool Daze (Speccy)
Rainbow Islands (Amiga / ST)
FIFA Soccer :boring:

I'm sure that they've been talking about a Speedball sequel. Or at least an update.

IIRC, the definitive Speedball was already a sequel (SB2).

I lost many hours on the megadrive to this game.

I definitely remember a Speedball 2 existing.

Parasol Stars is the sequel to Rainbow Islands, with Rainbow Islands being the sequel to Bubble Bobble.

There's no real need for sequels to Full Throttle and Sam & Max, there are plenty of other Lucasarts point-and-clicks. Check out the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle and The Dig.

Games that really needed a sequel are Mega lo Mania and First Samurai. Both were started but never finished :(

Mega lo Mania and Speedball 2 needs a sequel for sure!

Speedball 2 was updated but it was pretty lame.

There is an online version in the works but that will be interesting.

Powermonger could do with a sequel.

Half-life :p hehehe

Exile (awesome adventure game on the BBS)

Shadowrun

Speedball 2 was a classic,

Ice cream, Ice Cream,

Speedball made a return on the PS1, unfortunately it was utter gash so not a big seller.

There have been 2 more Bubble Bobble games.

Bubble Symphony and Bubble Memories. Symphony was released for the Saturn in Japan only and on the PS worldwide. The PS version is shockingly bad though with awful collision detection.

Personally I'd like to see sequels to:

Rez,
Creatures (C64 platformer),
Myth (multi format hit from about '89),
Mars Matrix,
Thunderforce V,
Castellian,
NiGHTS,
and Burning Rangers.

Chances of any of the above games getting a sequel must be nil.

ohhh great thread this has got me thinking...

Powermonger definately - great if flawed game - superb concept though.

Renegade/Target Renegade - TR was one of the best 2 ply scrolling beat em ups going - i'd love to see an update with great graphics.

Power Drift - Awesome racer - could be done really well with todays graphics.

Rex - wonderful platformer on the speccy - loved the way you could pump the people full of bullets and sent them flying accross the screen.

Myth - mentioned already, by the people who brought us Rex - great platformer.

Gauntlet - I know they've done legends etc but i'd love to see a MMORPG version, top down graphics, massive amount of levels, more depth.

Carrier Command - though this was a brilliant idea and made a great game. Online would be good, say 4 carriers per side (maybe some people in destroyers), all planes and tanks controlled by people, bigger archipelego, farcry graphics engine.

Starglider - SG3 would be good.

Wizball - mad 8 bit side scrolling platformer type game where you controlled a bouncing ball - would be interesting in 3D.

Ahh so many classics - i'm sure there are stacks more too :)

Startopia (PC) is one of my favourites - cried out for a sequel as it was one of those games that was really good but with a few tweaks could have been great :smashin:

Defender on the spectrum and amstrad cpc464/6128
that was "THE" game of its time
http://www.spectrum.lovely.net/Defender.html

Project X - amiga, badly needed a sequel
Shadow Dancer - Arcade/Mega Drive
Buggy Boy - Amiga, this would have been amazing in 3d
Solomons key - Amiga/Arcade, true classic
Hard Drivin' - Spectrum/amstrad/Amiga, 3d all them years ago !!
Vigilate - Spectrum/Amstrad/C64, was beaten off by the likes of double dragon
Rastan - Maser system
Chuckie Egg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh come on now :p

They are my all time fav's and still think they beat any game out today, would be great to see them as sequels.

Yeah some great games there, I loved Buggy Boy in the arcades - great game!

Instead of games that need sequels, how about games that you would like to see simply updated graohically and sonically (like Sega has done with it's AGES games like Afterburner, Golden Axe, Outrun etc.. on the PS2).

I would love to see a galaxy force update in todays graphics as that was a great game. Also international Karate would be a good one, maybe a 3D version or a 2D version with better graphics.

The original Elite if redone with todays graphics would be fantastic!! Maybe Turbo esprite on the speccy as well!

How about the old Codemasters budget classics like BMX simulator. You could have 5 or 6 games on 1 disc all with updated graphics & sound!

My last ones would be ATF and Bobsleigh (Speccy, C64, CPC464) from digital integration - 2 awesome games that would be vastly improved with better graphics & sound!

I would add :

Bioforge - Old adventure game that I seem to remember had a fine story and better gameplay.

Turrican - It would play like Metroid Prime, but with good gameplay ;)

Darkseed - H R Geiger inspired adventure game. I liked it even though it was a bit rubbish.

Alone in the Dark - It has had two fairly rubbish sequels, but a remake of the original. a la Silent Hill, would be great. I reckon this is the only media that has captured HP Lovecraft's stories sucessfully.

That speccy game where you turned into a warewolf at night - isometric like Head over Heels - what do you call it?. Could be made into a pretty good next gen adventure game. Kinda find out how to cure yourself, but you loose control at night having to kill folk.

Gunsmoke was a BRILLIANT game for the original NES. Now that´s a game that needs a remake/sequel.

You're a lucky man. There's sequels to some of those games already.

X2 on the PlayStation is the followup to Project X. Still a poor relation to Japanese shooters to be honest.

Race Drivin' is Hard Drivin' 1.5

Chuckie Egg had a 8-bit sequel and there is Chuckie Egg The Next Batch for the PC.

I have just remembered Stunt Car Racer should be added to my list that was a top game on the Amiga, hook two machines up and knock each other off.

oh yes buzlightyear!

stunt car racer is a superb game that could definately do with an update!! You could do much longer and more intricate tracks, have say 8 player races online, a big choice of cars, the ability to tweak them & buy parts, much better & more realistic graphics.

I loved that game and played many a game on linked up amiga's!! The way you had to jostle with the ppposition, keep control of your car and remember to hit the jumps etc at exactly the right speed was a very addictive formula for a racing game!

SCR is still one of the best 2 player racing games you can get which speaks volumes....

*******PLEASE GEOFF CRAMMOND DO A SEQUEL*****

What about Road Rash on the Megadrive? Must have played that for days on end back in the old days.

I know there was a Road Rash 2, but what about an up to date version?

Don't recall there being a game like it since, although GTA VC has you shooting on a motorbike but not anything like RR.

3DO Road Rash was superb. It looked amazing for the time and the music in between levels was by A&M bands like Therapy?, Paw and Soundgarden.
It was later converted to the PC,Saturn and PlayStation. Should be fairly easy to find a secong hand copy.
