    I am thinking of connecting a projector to a PC in another room and was looking for a wireless remote control of some sort to control DVD playback. It seems that most wireless mice (except expensive bluetooth) only have a range of 1 or 2 metres. Wireless gamepads seem to have a range of between 5 or 6 metres. Does anyone know if a gamepad can be programmed to control a software dvd player like WinDVD or PowerDVD?

    I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and can confirm that my unit works between floors with a distance of over 20 Ft although the unit is quite a few years old so perhaps they have changed the Tx strength or possibly changed to IR. Perhaps order a RF one as long as you buy it from a reputable store that does not have a problem with returns.

    Check this out mate - http://www.thrustmaster.co.uk/products/d_prd.php?p=T35&fam=5

    I've got the wired version and can vouch for its quality. Easily the best PC pad around, plenty of buttons, responsive control and the pad is covered with a light rubber coating. The only "negative" I suppose is the pad is on the large-ish size... But if you're used to the original Xbox pad then theres no problems ^_^

    The question is, can the buttons be programmed for "play", "rewind", "pause", etc.

    You should be able to in theory but I haven't tried it myself. I finish work at midnight so I'll have a go at configuring my pad for the basic DVD functions once I get back. I'll keep you posted.

    I have the ideal solution for you in the classified section;
    a dvd decoder card with remote control.
