Thinking of buying a GC but not sure whether i should go for the UK or US version. As I understand it, the US version plays at a faster frame rate and in full screen, is that true?

Also, what are the bestt prices at the moment?

    Cheers!

Assuming freeloader gets sorted out I would go for a PAL one - RGB is easier to get and you won't need to shell out for a step down - games should all be 60Hz on it.

Also with the PAL ones you can get £30 off - people are giving the vouchers that came with the SP away free (I just got one) so you can get a platinum PAL cube (comes out start of may) with Zelda for £99.99 - grab an RGB scart cable, memory card and freeloader and your all set.

PAL GC games are all full-screen, 60Hz or fully-optimized 50Hz. You won't need to worry about poor conversions IMO. The benefit of NTSC games in this generation is mainly release schedules - PAL gets games MUCH later than the NTSC territories.

If this wouldn't bother you (and as you don't have prog-scan capabilities) then I suggest a PAL Cube. They're cheaper, RGB, and you could always buy a Freeloader if you want the odd US/JAP game (which is what I've done).

I have a USA/Jap Cube, but since you don't have a progressive scan TV (and since Freeloader finally made it) I'd suggest you go for the PAL one.

I've never owned a PAL console and I could never bring myself to buy PAL........but then I'm too set in my ways regarding imports.

If you have a computer monitor you'll get progressive scan on that using a US Gamecube and a modified cable.

I'd get a JAP/US switchable one, or buy a JAP or US one and get
    Saurian to mod it.

the biggest advatage is not getting screwed either by Nintendo Europe or by the retailers for games. I buy loads via dvdboxoffice at around 25 quid inc shipping. Also remember coming soon:

    F-Zero:GC !

    Regards,
    Neil.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!

I intend to use the machine on either my 28" widescreen, or if progressive scan is really worth it, on my 17" TFT. How much does the modified cable cost and where can i get one from?

Apart from that, I'm still not too sure on which to get so I guess it would have to come down on price, don't suppose anyone knows where the cheapest place is, do they? Or has a spare voucher lying around?

    Cheers!

I'd have to say that the size advantage of the tv far outweighs the improved picture benefits of prog scan. Get a UK cube, official RGB scart and a copy of freeloader v1.06b, although you may want to wait for the Platinum coloured cubes to be released in the uk!

    Thanks!

So what so special about these platinum cubes then? Is it just the colour scheme?
