I have read through a few threads on the forums, but am still unsure what cable I need to connect my Gamecube to my system.

I am looking for a component (pref) or RGB SCART lead, that will also allow me to output sound to my surround amp.

It looks as though the official leads do not have separate sound connections. I have got Ixos leads for my PS2, but they do not make a Gamecube equivalent.

    What is everyone else using?

You need 2 leads one for component, the other for connection to your amp
I got my component lead from https://www.lik-sang.com
The audio connection is the standard lead which came with the CG..Jim

Go for component if you can. It's a great cable, and can give Prog Scan output if you've got Freeloader and NTSC Prog-scan compatible games.

    You have 2 options:

    1. RGB Scart from GC to TV, and if you want sound from your amp the TV should be connected to it via appropriate audio leads.

    2. Component from GC to TV, analogue audio from GC to amp (use the GC lead that comes with the console and leave the yellow composite disconnected or snip it off).

There is no 1 lead solution  .

I went for option 2, I was very impressed by component feed (via official GC lead) slightly clearer/sharper than RGB scart. Also very handy for linking to my PJ.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks for the advice.

I hadn't realised that the component lead used the digital output.

I have ordered the component cable from Lik-Sang - hope I don't get hit for customs charges!
