I recently brought one and have been playing Mario Kart to death - but only in good light ! I am really frustrated by the lack of a back light. I hear Nintendo are going to re-release a version with back lighting next year.

It plays all the existing Gameboy games, right? Do they look any better on the Advance? Reason I ask is that I'd like to get my nephew one for Christmas, but he is Pokemon mad and I'd lose all street cred ( <img src="cool.gif" border="0"> ) if I got the wrong thing!

regarding the screen and back-lighting, I purchased a little gizmo called a SCREEN GUARD ( or something similar ) whicg shines a nice white light evenly across the screen and makes each game easy to play, even in total darkness.

MARIO KART is a great game, but one of the best ( maybe better than MK ) is CASTLEVANIA

Experienced the same problems with no backlight so invested in the "Mad Catz" magnifier and light screen, have to say I'm not happy with it. The light isn't bright enough and the magnifier causes quite bad reflection. I hope the official Nintendo gadget will be an improvement when released.

Love Mario Kart and Rayman is excellent too, although quite tricky at times.

guys, I saw it in some website not so long ago, apparently so can tune the GBA to make it brighter. The problem is I cannot remember which site. Just remember doing a search using yahoo. The site said there is a screw at the back (covered by a stcker I think), turn the screw to change the lighting. Hope this helps

Apparently if you peel pack the sticker on the back you will find a tiny screw - this will adjust the brightness, but invalidates your warranty as according to Nintendo will cause a build up of current that 'could' damage the screen

the Nintendo "gadget" is actually gonna be a completely new GBA, not a retro-fit item, according to the GBA forums. So either we pray that they will do some kind of trade-in deal, or go for one of the 3rd party solutions that can be found at pocketmonopoly.com.

Also, there are apparently 2 manufacturers of display screens and the rumour mill would have us believe that one suppliers screen is better than the others. Personally I took mine back and after looking at 3 other displays could not find any difference [however, as it was in a brightly lit shop I didn't really expect anything to the contrary], so I opted for one with a more transluscent top cover, to my mind this will allow more ambient light into the casing and improve the display qualities under reduced lighting conditions.

Just got a 2nd hand Tetris cart, for the original gameboy, it plays in colour on my GBA and stretches to fit the GBA screen - nice :)

that should have read portablemonopoly.com :)
