Interesting, although the art is a little dull. I take it these will be Jumbos?
Well if these pics are to be believed they are regular steelbooks with contiguous spine art.
Already own the box sets so not worth the double dip for me.Would have had to be something very nice.
I've made it a rule for myself to never purchase TV boxsets or games on steelbook. They date a lot quicker than films imo. I look at the ES Walking Dead steelbook designs, the Breaking Bad designs and now these and i like them all but nope, cannot justify it. The chances of me watching seasons through again are slim to none.
Very nice but ive got the first release with added George Bush so I wont be buying this.
Interesting. I've only just recently watched all 5 series and loved it. Don't own the box sets but have been thinking of buying them. This may sway me. Not keen on jumbo's though.
It is unclear if they will be jumbos or not. The spine artwork shows standard steelbooks but these do not match the other shots. Are these slipcovers?
However the previous releases were 5 discs and according to the press the steelbooks have:
In addition to all of the bonus content from the previous Blu-ray sets, the Game of Thrones Steelbook is the first TV-on-Blu-ray title to be released with the revolutionary new audio technology Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray features a newly remixed Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which places and moves sounds and music anywhere in the room, including overhead, creating a captivating experience that brings entertainment alive all around the audience.
My wife loves this serie so i will have to look into it. Artwork is not really tempting though...
Also nice to see an exclusive from Amazon.uk for a change
The Breaking Bad steelbooks are really beauties and i've been very fortunate to be able to get them for cheap from Mediamarkt (£7/season)
The US ones, and these should be the same, are confirmed as G2 size so regular steelbooks, not Jumbos. Apparently there's a new way to hold up to 6 discs in a regular steelbook... that could spell the end to Jumbos if it catches on then.
Personally think the BB steels are hideous, still get disappointed when i see them as it's one of my all time favourite shows, there's not many TV shows i'd want on steel but i would have loved to have BB. That's a very good price per season though if you like them.
Lovely jubbly. Sold my old box sets a while ago and been waiting patiently for this announcement. Pre ordered this and season 2 steels
A majority didn't seem to like the artwork of these steelbooks so i'm not estonished of your remark.
I only realised how nice they were when i unsealed them to re-watch the complete series for the second time.
A lot of people don't know what they miss though because in hand they are really nice steelbooks and the individual inside artwork and disc art for each steelbook is incredible.
To each their own.
Luckily we always have you to tell us
Joking aside, whilst they may look nicer in hand, the artwork is still as advertised so if you don't like the artwork then you don't like the artwork. Happy you do though and at £7 per season that really is a bargain
I don't really see how that is possible considering only four discs are a tight fit. It is great though if they have found a way.
2 on each side and a plastic holder in the middle?
Just guessing though.
Edit: I've seen some G1 6 disc version with the plastic 2 discs holder in the middle and 2 discs on each side but never a G2 until now.
Tempting although i shouldn't really double dip
Full image up on Amazon.ca, UK one will be the same
So, is it 2 steelbooks, with 3 discs in one and 2 in the other?
No, they've just used 2 separate images to show front and back artwork.
The new method to housing up to 6 discs in a regular G2 steelbook is simply a bigger hub that can hold up to 3 discs stacked, on each side. Simple idea, though not every one likes the idea of stacking discs on top of each other.
Really don't like that idea at all to be honest. even if Bluray discs are far superior to what dvd/cd discs used to be...it isn't something i would appreciate.
Also the fact that you have to take some discs out to get the one you need, instead of just the one you want... etc...
Are you sure? That image really makes it look like two steelbooks in a slipcover. That explains why in all the pictures so far the slipcover looks fatter than expected.
I'm in two minds about this, never seen GOT but that art work is so bland, so generic I can't bring myself to order
I can highly recommend the series although a fantasy series I would say adults only, but I don't know how good it would be on repeat viewing. Id like to know if the series will ever come to a conclusion, but then again it must as no one is safe.
The price is quite good as when the series came I believe the cost was a lot higher I seen season 4 in the cardboard box set RRP at just under £50.
BTW Barnaby the seasons are half the normal season but the cost per episode is 2-3 times the norm. And you can see it on the screen I don't think there paying silly money to the actors. I think you could almost call it Lord of the Rings Lite (and by that I don't mean it disrespectful, just do hell of a lot with the money) and loads of plots to fellow.
Well the TV series is currently up to date with the books. Two more books are planned but the first of these is already a couple of years late. The author has said that this will be the end of the series. It is likely like the next seasons of the TV show will be produced in parallel as they cannot wait until the books are finished and released.
It does bear up to repeated viewing and yes it will come to a conclussion on the TV side of things. Think it going to be 8 series in total although i might be worng on that. The books finishing is another matter .
I heard that the series running ahead of the books now, so is the author giving some input to the series or are there going there separate ways?
I really don't like LOTR. I mean a lot.
It's not as dodgy as it may sound, as you say Blu-ray discs are far superior, particularly with the anti scratch layer they have on them, not too easy to mark and it would take something bad to stop the disc from playing (something i'm yet to experience in years of blu-ray owning)- DVD's on the other hand, i'd be like "nope, not happening"
This idea has already been in use with some amaray sets and game sets apparently so it's not new idea or thing and it's been fine, there's enough gap in between so the discs don't actually touch each other according to people that have seen these bigger hubs before. With only up to 3 per side, getting to the disc you want isn't really going to be much of an issue, removing 2 at a maximum to get to the bottom one and it's not something you'd keep on doing either. It seems to be this idea or keep on with Jumbo's.
