In this incarnation of COD I have mostly been playing Kill Confirmed.
And while I still love that game mode, I told myself that I would force myself to play other modes.
A lot of you guys regularly play Dom, so I gave that a go yesterday. Actually really enjoyed it, in terms of fun. probably helped that I got a nice Chopper-> VSAT -> Swarm combo!
But, I just found it fun, and I feel less competitive on it. Because there is more than one way to play it i.e. play the objectives/cap/defend, etc; just kill-whore/not play the objective. So I don't really know what it means to be good at this game mode. I mean I know that I think that just getting a massive KD in it is not impressive to me, cos it's not that hard to do if you don't play the objective (if you're a decent player).
I guess being really good at it means a good KD plus a decent number of caps, regularly.
Like, I like long gun killstreaks, that's what really gets me off the most when playing this game, but in a game mode like Dom, as we've joked about before on here many'a time (a MOAB in Dom is half-a-MOAB, etc), I wouldn't feel the same sense of achievement getting a higher gun-killstreak in this mode as I would in say a Kill Confirmed, or a Team Deathmatch.

Probably TDM is the rawest mode for this kind of thing, I think, as it's all about the killing only, nothing else.

Free For All to some degree, but I don't think it's as hard as TDM.

Played some FFA too recently. Enjoyed it, but for me it encourages me to 'hold down an area' (though I do mean an actual area, and not just one spot/corner/room), just running between a few points and shooting them as they come back for me. fun for a bit, but gets lonely/boring for me!

Like Domination, it's great fun, but it's so much easier to build up your scorestreak in it. In my game yesterday, I had a chopper before I knew it, and VSAT, and the swarm came about 5-10 seconds later. it all happened so fast that I don't really know what I did to achieve it!

I'll carry on trying Domination, it is good fun, for sure.
But I think I might go and give TDM a go too, see if I'm actually any good at this game or not! :)

(excuse the ramblings, a bored/cold/tired Monday morning in the office!!)

I'm not an out-and-out objective player but I try and balance caps/ defends with kills. Getting kills does still help you win games, and there are those games where you hold flags for so long there's nothing to cap so you can concentrate on raping the other team.

The only thing I don't like about Dom is your teammates have to be decent. I rage quit a game yesterday when I had 3 people on my team who just died constantly (one guy was 2-21 ***) and fed the other team a VSAT/ Dogs/ Swarm. In KC/ TDM you can be more influential.

I do prefer TDM and I think it takes more skill to be good at, but it's boring in BLOPS2.

yeah, very true, cos in Dom if you lose, you lose big style! gotta have at least some half-decent team mates.

oh yeah, forgot about that, I stopped playing it at the beginning cos it was boring!
weird!

why do you think the same game, on arguably better maps, is considerably more boring that it was on MW3?
maybe cos you can't run riot with the specialist perks in this one!

It's definitely harder to rush in this game without Specialist, movement feels slower and I miss having footsteps to help (I seem to get shot in the back a hell of a lot in this game). Maybe that's why? I get bored if I can't run around and get kills, I'm not the kind of player who can patiently wait and head glitch people with a target finder.

Did someone say Target finder?

It's no surprise that I'm mainly a domination player and a big defender of the game type.

For me personally I actually think that TDM & FFA are the easiest to get long kill streaks (more so TDM). But I stress that this is for me. My reasoning is that I have one goal in a game and that is to win. So if it's domination or KC then killing people comes second to capping flags and collecting tags and both those actions create a risk of getting killed and consequently ending your streak. In TDM & FFA your objective is simple kill people and don't get killed as such it makes me play accordingly.

But I perfectly accept that if I adjusted my play style and didn't worry about winning I could probably get longer kill streaks more often in domination.

I also agree that domination enables you to get kill streaks fast especially if you are getting kills whilst capping the flag but I also think that it's easier to recycle your streaks on KC due to all the points you can rack up by collecting your tags that your kill streaks are dropping for you.

In terms of what it means be good at dom I'd personally say win loss ratio it's hard to have a good win loss ratio if you don't cap flags.

I want to play more hard point and head quarters as well as the party games.

Good point, that I hadn't considered. Game win/loss has not been a priority/importance, or even a thought for me! just my performance with the game. So the only time I care about winning (the game) is in FFA.
A good example would be that Dom game I played yesterday, at half time we was 140-70-odd down, 2nd half I had a decent round. We lost the game by a single-figure amount, but I had great fun, and got the best score, got a swarm, etc, so it was a winner for me!.. and I guess you probably wouldn't have been so happy!

cheers dude, it's good to get/understand/realise another perspective on it.

I am so with you on the party games. Never played them and found Gun game really fun last night. (The Executioner pistol/shotgun makes me want to roundhouse kick a nun though)

And i just may pick up a sniper rifle and become a 1337 sniper. Unbelieveable the quick scpoes i was pulling yesterday :hiya:

I don't mind losing when it's to good players but I hate losing when I know we should have won and then you look at the stats and realise you were the only one capping the B flag! Even having one person in your party makes the world of difference.

So yes for me whilst I can take something from the fact I was the highest scoring player and knowing I did my best to get the win I'm never actually happy unless I win. I've said I really want to get 100 kills in a game of domination but if I got it and lost the game I personally wouldn't count it!

Cool we'll get some games going, sorry for dropping last night it was unplayable due one being on a one bar so I reset the router.

oh yeah, forgot about this bit. I'd be well up for any of those too.

oh and Capture the Flag. this used to be my fave game mode, in Call of Duty Finest Hour, on Oasis map...awesome)

Anything but S'n'D really!

Check this vintage COD multiplayer out:

I also like to mix up the game types a bit since i've joined the clan. Having extra team mates helps lots for these objective modes.
When playing on my own used to play KC almost exclusively, so i've maxed out those challenges and need the other modes doing.

I've always struggled with capture the flag though. Always find too many enemies camping their flag and mowing me down when i get near.

Found the tac insert very handy for most obj game modes, will be my next perma unlock.

I know what you mean Dan, I find it annoying when you jump on the B flag with a teammate nearby and they don't even cover your back while you cap it…fine if you don't want to cap it, but don't sit there watching me get shot!

I do think having someone on your team calling in scorestreaks is extremely helpful though, I had a great game recently where we were losing for a lot of the game until the very end I called in all 3 streaks, which allowed us to triple-cap them and win by a very small margin (may even have been 1 point). The VSAT in particular can kickoff a chain of streaks from your team. This is also why I don't agree with people focus purely on getting caps while dying repeatedly – it's counter-productive as you just feed easy scorestreaks to the enemy.

Yeah I need some tips for this one.
Luckily we have a resident CTF expert in Mr Noble!

So, Nobes, see Matt's point above.
Any good tactics/tips you can give for this game mode would be appreciated :smashin:

I've always played domination as seems the most tactical mode. Smoke helps alot when capturing the flag I have found. And the bouncing Betty to place it in the smoke whilst capturing to get opponents running in to stop you capturing it

I'm a TDM man who loves playing KC when I'm on my own. Masses of xp. Only thing that winds me up is being put on crap teams which has resulted in me only having a 0.86 w/l ratio on KC. Invariably players just don't try and capture tags or just feed the other team tags with their inability to shoot straight. I went on a 15 game losing streak on KC last week, utterly depressing!

Yep defnitely a balance for sure but if I lose by a good margin I usually hold the 40 - 5 with 2 caps people more responsible than the 10 - 15 with 6 caps people. Typically though I don't care how people play as long as we win :D

I know this isn't typical but heres some evidence as to why I don't think getting long streaks in TDM is as hard as people make out,

Had a couple of games of Hardpoint recently, and really enjoying that mode.
it''s like Domination, but better, with all the annoying bits taking out (fixed objective points, fixed camping, fixed everything). Domination is now dead to me..Long live Hardpoint! :)

Would love a Hardcore version of it. :(

Been back to Blops 2 in the last couple of days and also MW3.

Question to other people on here who play S&D. I have tried hard to get in to S&D on Blops2 but for some reason for me it has been the weakest COD game yet for S&D and the last couple of nights have found myself turning it off and going back to MW3 for my S&D fix.

Anyone else not liking S&D on Blops?

Mostly play HC S&D on Blops2 as it seems to be the game mode least effected by lag and i normally play with the same team of players and we usually kick arse :smashin:

Just played some token KC core on MW3 hopefully for an easy bronze and reminded myself how bad the compensation is on that mode for me. A nice leg up for the player who kept dropping from 3 to 1 bar.

On the other hand my nephew claims that he can't get a fair game on MW2 any more because he's still stuck on countrified 2Mb ADSL. Cruely FTTC stopped the estate before his possibly because there are none after it.

I tried to compare notes in MW2 and hopefully give him a leg up on my host, but it was just as frustrating as when I used to try and pair up with a mate on an equivalent connection. The majority of the time once we started searching for a match we got split up or only one got into a game.
