I'd recomend you buy a pc gamer magazine for the cover disc as demo's these days tend to be rather large. I'd recomend Battlefield 2 demo can be dl here:-

    ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/demos/battlefield2demo.exe (564mb)

it's a multiplayer game with large detailed environments with various charater classes, vehicles a ranking system and is great fun. Other games I'd recomend that are great to play and high on the eye candy is Half Life 2 (and Counter strike source), Doom 3, Far Cry which are all fps's but that's all I tend to play lol

I'm sure a quick google will find you plenty of demos to dl ;)

If you download from reputable sites you should be ok. I'd recomend you download from the distributor of the games website (like EA for example) your not likely to get any dodgey software from a cosher site but antivirus it anyhow;)

or pick up a copy fo the pc gamer dvd version loads of demos on there.

You can download demo's fo all the games I recomended. You'll need to download steam for the hl2 demo though but I've never had any issues with it. You can purchase and download the full game from here:-

    www.steampowered.com

I went for the silver version:D

The Half-Life 2 demo should be a good tester, or try the Doom 3 one!
