I know I have just finished watching it and oh my god!!

Getting back to the cameras though, very interesting bits in the program. I am tempted on testing my shutter speed by using a record deck, great idea!

I missed the start of the programme and so missed the bit about digicams. How can you use a record deck to test shutter speed

What rpm was it running at?

For those who missed it it is on again on Wen at 23.15.

They put a large arrow pointing outwards, set the turntable running and when the arrow reached 12 o'clock position they snapped a picture, then looked at the shoot. I think one rev was about 2 seconds.

Dont know RPM it was running at, I would have thought it was 45.

EDIT: It may of had a manual setting so you could adjust the speed to whatever you liked, which idealy then you could set it to 60rpm.

Reading your most has kicked my grey cells into action, if the turn table were running at 33.33 rpm that would make one rev 60 / 33.33 which is 1.8 seconds per rev which is what I think they did.

Maybe, but even at 45 that would have taken each rpm to 1.3 second which would give a more accurate measurment as that would be the closest to 1 second. Did you record it by any chance Garrett to have a second look?

Think it must have been 33.33 since when the pointer went almost round he quoted just under 2 second.

No I did not tape it but may watch again on Wed.

The record deck was used to test shutter delay, rather than shutter speed, so it wasn't so important that the time was accurate: it was just a nice way to show how long some digital cameras take to react once you've pressed the button.

With watching the show I knew what Mark was on about.

I do thing the shutter delay is important as it can miss crucial shots.

For some strange reason they seemed to highly recommend DVD camcorders over mini DV tape

I think it was purely because of the editing. I have read mags where they still say tape.

The bad things about these try all programs and show they are not dedicated.
I would not say look at Stuff for the best Hi-Fi equipment revues but rather Home Cinema Choice or the like of it.

PS it is on again tonight.
