I asked in an earlier post about which card to go for and got some good feedback(Thanks)
My choice was narrowed to the 9800SE aiw, but there are that many arguments that they work, they dont work, you have to change fans and all sorts of crap like that.
All I want is a nice fast card for around the £150 mark, its only for gaming, I dont want to be messing about, I want to plug it in and away we go.
    Any suggestions? please.
What about either of the cards I mentioned, which is the best for my needs, keep in mind I want to play the latest games like Halflie 2 etc...
Also where are the best places to buy the cards you are about to recommend?

The FX5700 ultra is supposed to be a bit faster than the 9600XT, but it probably costs a little more. I don't think there's a whole lot in it - I guess it depends on the price difference and whatever past experiences you've had with either brand.

They're both very good cards and should play the latest games (including HL2 and Doom3) quite happily. The FX5700 is tons better than the FX5600.

Where to buy? I dunno really. Perhaps this might help:

Might be worth waiting a few weeks. I strongly believe that the 9800pros are going to come down alot.

In the tests I have seen The ATI 9600 XT is faster.

In normal fillrate and texturing it is between 4% - 37% faster the the FX 5700 Ultra.

In Pixel Shading it looks to be 30% - 70% faster then the FX 5700 Ultra.

    Check out this thread.

The Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI & Half Life 2 Bundle can be picked up now at www.overclockers.co.uk for around £126 pounds.

unless you are really desperate for a graphics card,i don`t see much point in getting a new card until around april next year..coz there isn`t anything out there to push the bounderies.yes you can add the affects like aa ..but i`m sure there will be newer cards out around april anyway.plus if not the other cards will be lower in price by then.. just my choice..other tha nthat i`d get the all in wonder radeaon card.

Can't really see the 9800 Pro/nps dropping dramatically in price.

9700 Pros remained strong (read expensive) right up until the 9800s arrived.

I'd still say get a 9800 non pro with Samsung memory - flashed 6 of these to Pro bios, all perfect to date @ amazing clock speeds etc..

    I have 2, both @ 475/380 running 24/7 without a hitch.

Try the usual suppliers, OCUK, Scan, Dabs etc...

A bit of research should confirm which current brands are fitted with Sammy memory chips.

Hmm , I guess asking someone who has recently modded 6 of them wasn't the quickest way of gaining an answer then

All 6 I flashed came from the same source here in Ireland - not too much use to you I expect.
