From an article on the Guardian website, in an email to staff on Tuesday, Future's UK chief executive, Mark Wood, confirmed that the titles to be sold or closed were DVD & Blu-Ray Review, Hi-Fi Choice, What Satellite & Digital TV, Home Cinema Choice, London Tech Guides & Bookazines, Photoshop Focus Guides, Nitro and Redline.

This is a particularly sad day for me because my interest in home cinema was very much kindled by Steve May's Home Cinema Choice in the late '90s.

yes i had a thing for HCC in the nineties, i then switched to what hi fi..then i switched to your (our) wonderful forum of which i have been a member for 6 years... and stuart if i ever win the lottery..the first thing id do is pay you a visit and put some more investment in...

but i agree with you, cant help having a quick peek when at these mags when i pop into tesco or whsmith..sad day of course it also means more job losses in this country as well as losing the mags themselves :(

    Hi Stuart

Same here - Home Cinema Choice is one of my favourite mags, and have been and are at present a subscriber. I thought the mag had been excellent, especially that last 4-5 months.

Any news are what is happening and when? My present yearly subscription only started in March time.

    Many thanks

I sent Home Cinema Choice an email earlier to see if there was any news, and they said they hoped to be able to make a statement shortly. Also that they hoped the magazine would be able to continue - so fingers crossed then.

This is the first i've heard of this. I also am a subscriber to HCC and have recently taken out a two year subscription so if (sadly) this title gets the chop I hope that the remaining subs will be refunded. Having said that I would be sad if this magazine goes because it is, imo, the better title on home cinema and in fact it was through the magazines original site that I became aware of these hallowed forums.

For many years I logged on to AV Forums through HCC's website not realising that AVF had its own dedicated site. Let's hope the title is saved.

I used to subscribe to these mags years ago.

The problem these days is the instant access to info and news the internet gives you, including sites like AVForum.
With lead times and publishing times these mags are like entering a small time warp. When you read them all the news and info is around 6 to 8 weeks old.

For example - My latest copy of Digital Camera is telling me about a new Nikon40mm lens rumoured for release in the next few weeks. This has been available for a week or so now and I'd read the reviews on it some time ago.

I had the latest edition turn up yesterday, and I am in it (in the feedback section), I might have a claim to fame of being in the one of the last editions - hopefully not though.

Really sorry about the possibility of HCC ceasing production. Its been a very good magazine, with some great writers and contributors over the years. I remember its forerunner - Your Own Home Cinema, and that's what got me interested in surround etc around 1994. That was issued less frequently, and HCC being monthly was great. So enjoyed getting my fix of reviews and news.

Perhaps the bleakest impact of this is the continuation of one indutry magazine that makes lots of claims on the merits of top price HDMI cables - yes you know the magazine well!!!!!!! Fiction lives on, and that's the really sad part!

Good news "Long live AVForums!" The quality of hardware reviews is very good with in depth information you can only dream of seeing in magazines. Hats off to Phil Hinton, Steve Withers and the team. And they get to give feedback to manufacturers on improvements on hardware they've reviewed GR8.

    :(
Surely another publisher will take HCC on. It wasnt too long ago that it was done by Haymarket no? Ive always prefered HCC over what hifi, but do admit what hifis reviews are far mroe extensive.

If you mean that there are more reviews in what hi fi then I would agree but compared to hcc their reviews are thin and subjective

    Dear Illustrious Founder

    Anorak Central I think???????

Seriously though, they might publish a long list of hobby mags, but who cares if HCC lives!
