Saw these a while ago and wrote them off as fake. However the poster on that forum seems to be taken seriously by other members, so there could be something in it.

RonS has been talking about new sealed subs for a while so don't see why this should be regarded as fake. Time will tell I suppose.

Ed Mullen from avsforums has also confirmed this and gone into some detail regarding the new architecture.

It seems though that the current crop of ultra subs will go louder than the new sealed ones because they are ported designs.

    - 13.5" woofer with an overhung VC/motor (the Ultra 13.5" woofer is underhung)
    - cube shaped with 16-17" outer dims
    - side accent panels like the M-series and the PB12-Plus
    - magnetically retained metal grille like the PB12-Plus and PB13-Ultra

    SB16-Ultra:

    - 1000W DSP with front-mounted bezel/display
    - wireless connectivity
    - 16.5" woofer with an underhung VC and radial neodymium motor
    - cube shaped with 19-20" outer dims
    - all veneer or gloss finishes like the PB13-Ultra
    - magnetically retained metal grille like the PB13-Ultra

The DSP essentially replaces the analog controls, and does not necessarily imply an auto-EQ solution. While auto-EQ certainly exists on some of the DSP chipsets we're using, it almost assuredly won't be on the Plus model, but it may be an extra-cost option on the Ultra model.

While the auto-EQ is quite powerful (multi-band with multi-position algorithms and much better than the typical single band solutions floating around), it still doesn't have the processing power of the AS-EQ1, which will remain the optimal external EQ solution in any event.

    Interesting!!
I am looking to upgrade my SVS SB12+ and the SB13+ might be just the job.

How much deeper or better would a 13.5" driver in a 16-17" cube cabinet be, compared to my SB12+ (12" driver in a 14" cabinet)?
    Time will tell.
Don't know if I can wait until October though!

Saw this thread and thought 'oh crap' just I have ordered the SVS PC12+ but then realised these monsters will be close to £2K (guessing) and way out of my league *phew*.

It may be worth emailing SVS on this as no-one here will have any experience of either of the new subs, and any answers will be pure speculation :(

Let us know how you get on :smashin:

If SVS says October you must give a room of another year for launch. But well worth :smashin:

Back on topic has anyone clocked the CES cut sheet that was posted over at the shack

I wonder how the SB16 would stack up against my EQ'd PC-Ultra. Also will SVS even bother to export these 16" monsters outside the states as they will have to go through the whole CE certification again for the new models

A week or so back i saw a couple of the monster tubes up for grabs in the classifieds and was really really tempted. Whilst contemplating, I was watching Batman dark knight and then thought to myself - you are just not going to get THAT much improvement for the bucks......

I have to say i really am blown away with just how good the little sb12+ is.

That'll be the Blue Peter subwoofer you made earlier? :)

Graham will be along in a minute to help you cure this little problem.

All you need to make a real subwoofer is a cardboard roll from a kitchen towel and some black fabric!

Here's Connie to give you a hand while we wait for Graham.

That depends on how loud you listen :smashin: The SB12+ is a cracking sub but start upping the volume beyond -10db and it will run out of steam :(

Slightly off topic but here goes

My old (imported) 20-39PC+ with the upgraded 12.3 driver was pretty good and the only real reason that i upgraded to the PC-Ultra was that i could bottom the driver in the PC+ That gives you an idea on how loud i listen in my room. I did notice an improvement with music too but it was out and out lack of distortion plus the super high SPL that made most difference for me.

Both of my SVS's have always had some sort of EQ applied, whether with REW / BFD or the EQ1. Without the EQ applied there was massive amounts of room boom as i had a 25db peak at 40Hz in my old Sub position :suicide:

The PC+ is a cracking sub IMO and TBH if we did not get the PCU at the bargain price we paid i doubt if i could justify the current £1310 price which is more than £400 over the top of what i paid :suicide:

:D you're staying a lot more on topic than many people in this thread Steve :rotfl:

I think I'll have to move those Connie photos for a start as they're about DIY. I'll keep them on my hard drive while we decide where they should go :)

Nimby, I can't say how much I appreciate your posts and your blog. There's so much more to bass that numbers.

There's so much LF information on most music and soundtracks, that nobody ever gets to hear, its a crime. I'm only just beginning to realise this. Keep up the good message.

Thankyou for your kind comments. :)

In reference to the big cylinder and organ music I was delighted with the performance of my early, budget model SVS until I discovered IB subwoofers. The IB sets such high standards of SQ that I doubt any affordable commercial subwoofer can possibly compete. The IB Cult forum members comment regularly on the upgrade in sound quality of their IBs over their former stacked examples of well very respected subwoofers.

It should be remembered that commercial subwoofers are having to compete against multiples of 15" or 18" drivers housed in room-sized enclosures. It would be rather surprising if the IB didn't outperform a domestically acceptable box or cylinder. The IB has no such constraints but is not universally applicable or even acceptable in many domestic situations. The IB suits the extremist AV fan. The commercial subwoofer has to satisfy a much wider audience to survive in a fiercely competitive market. Factors to which the IB can remain completely aloof.
