By utilising regeneration site gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, games consoles, handheld gaming devices, digital cameras, iPods, and Sat Navs can be quickly converted in to cash - with the added benefit that they are refurbished and reused by a new owner.
The research highlighted that 41% of us have previously traded in old mobile phones for cash, but less than a quarter have traded in other gadgets. People in London, Northern Ireland and Wales have the highest value in unused gadgets (worth £370, £311 and £308 respectively). Whereas households in the north-west have the least, with £218 worth of unused gadgets on average per household.
Londoners buy the most new gadgets, spending on average £1,168 per person per year, closely followed by the Welsh (£1,140) and those in the East Midlands (£1,137.67). Although it appears people in Canterbury have a particular passion for tech, with an average annual spend of £1,916.67.
Matt Hodgins, event director at The Gadget Show Live, announced the survey results today and said: Many cash-strapped families arent aware of the money they can make from old gadgets. Although many of those surveyed have recycled or regenerated old mobile phones, very few are cashing in on old games consoles, laptops and other unused gadgetry.
