    Hi guys,

I have just got my new 36" PD50 and it just doesn't cut it. I am now thinking about buying an HDTV ready plasma instead. Everyone who has seen it seems to rate the new 50" Fujitsu 40 Series very highly. I can't seem to find any in the UK yet so assume they haven't hit retail.

What I'm wondering is if the US version will work here. The spec sheet for the US version lists support for UK video signals and power:

    http://www.plasmavision.com/Plasma_PDF/P50XHA40US_Brochure.pdf

The only thing I'm not sure about is the HDTV @ 50Hz support. MAW posted a few bits about it in this thread:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-193489.html

I can't see why the US version wouldn't support HDTV @ 50Hz. What does everyone think - do you reckon I should risk it? You can pick up the 50" for about $6500 in the US so it would be a bit of a bargain. Plus I can get my mate in the states to send it back to the UK

I hear that superwaves exist on the atlantic that could get as high as 40 meters, I am not sure a plasma could survive that :smashin:

    Ben,

50 Hz support has been confirmed by Fujitsu - none too sure about warranty here in the UK if you personally import a US panel.

Joking aside do you think this would be too risky?

just make sure it´s insured very well but then you probably would have to pay import taxes too. Plasma´s need to be transported safely. They were shipped from Japan to the USA so it can be done as long as the people who ship it know how to handle it!

Add in Tax+Duty, the transformer for the power supply, the 'risk' factor of warranty/transportation and to be honest I think you are best waiiting a few weeks for the official UK model.

PAt marcus has one on order i think he said end of month..Fujitsu are currently changing the way they do things delearwise so best bet is to either try a local Fujitsu dealer or wait a week or so. I think most forum regulars and larger sponsors will be supplying 40 series when it comes out.

Ive negociated the same deal as they were offering at the bristol show - £4500 including free £200 table stand.
I have no doubt that the forum sponsors will do it more cheaply but I have a good relationship with my Dealer and the free installation and set-up is worth something to me. As soon as it's run in, Im gonna have Piers do the ISF calibration.

Btw. It's due to arrive early next week. Fujitsu have told me that mine will be the "first" to be sold in the country, not that I actually care about that - I`ll just be pleased to have it. After shelling out all that cash, plus hdmi cables and some other new cables so that I can route all my other components through the meridian to get them upsampled to hdmi, I shall be broke and unable to afford to leave the house.
The picture had better be something special.......

Just got this e-mail from the Fujitsu director of training:

    Hello Ben,

I was happy to read you had seen 3rd-party endorsements of our Plasmavision display performance. Thanks for forwarding your e-mail address. Here's some info that will help you decide.

    1. The P50xha40US supports 50Hz input signals 720p and 1080i. You're thinking is correct - if it supports PAL it must support 50Hz.
    2. Fujitsu General America does not recommend you purchase a plasma display here for primary use overseas. US models are warrantied for use only in the US, Canada, and some other locations in the Americas. For warranty service, you'd have to transport it to the USA to our HQ or a field service center. For service in other areas, the local service center may choose to work on it for payment.

Feel free to write to me directly with any questions.
    David Fink
    Director of Training
    Fujitsu General America, Inc.

Looks like it would be a lot more sensible to wait for a UK version. How long do you think it will take for prices of the new 40 series to come down a bit? How long has it taken other brands top models?

David Fink is known as "trainerdave" on the AVS Forum, and is definitely the top knowledgeable source for Fujitsu info. You can put in a search using his AVS Forum name to learn more.

It was the standard deal that the Audio T/Audio Excellence group were offering down at the Bristol show. I simply asked my own Dealer to match it. I expect with a bit of wrangling you could get any Audio T/Excellence branch to still do it.
Get ordering. Stocks have arrived in the UK.
Depending on when mine arrives and, whether i can take the time off this week to get it installed, I`ll have a "first thoughts" review available really soon.

nope its not on their website and last time i checked it wasnt on the Fujitsu UK website either. Never fear, Audio T/E do know about it. They were running the show!!!

Bear in mind that Fujitsu are slowly getting round the UK signing up Dealers so my best advice would be to get in contact with them to find out your nearest contracted Dealer : If you call their Sales department, they will be able to tell you which Dealers are signed up and which of those Dealers have 40-series demo stock going to them.

Why not have a word with MAW. He's not too far from London and as you have seen from his posts, is looking forward to getting one soon.

If you really cant wait, Im getting mine from Music Matters in Solihull, who have two 50"s on order, one of which is "spare" but they will use as a demo model if it doesn`t get snapped up first.......
