    Hi all

I am just about to jump on the new 40 series 50" Fujitsu US version here in Australia I have only seen the Oz version whihc is the same as the UK no HDMI.

I have heard heaps of great things about the unit but nothing negative, What is the general thought on this unit?

You need to speak to one of:

    Grandmaster Hornius Draconis
Pat Marcus Esq. - El Presidente
Dil Ali Esq. - El Vice Presidente
(Members of the Sekrit Society (whose name cannot be mentioned))

Joe/Liam/Maw can probably chuck some comments in too. :)

I am eagerly awaiting mine. :)

Check the model number of the screen that you are offered very carefully. If you have read the threads fully you will have seen my comments about what I was able to adjust in Bristol and what I was able to adjust elsewhere. The "US" version is far more adjustable.

Well its just been reviewed fully by this months HCC and if you trust reviews it gets top marks and is now the class leader basically....

Its "best in class" "magically rich and dynamic whilst contast remains immense" and this is on ..Sky !!! "A superb choice for those looking for a high performance HD screen" etc etc...

So you really have no choice now as independent advice from peeps here and on the mags are all saying the same thing.

    Good one Glenn mate..

Your title and robes will be sorted after initiation....

Quality costs i am afraid to say and if we are all spending 5k on a bleedin screen i expect it to be rather good too.

    You are not wrong

I went out again today and had another look while grocery shopping and see the P50 30 series sitting next to a Pio 505HD and the colours looked really washed out on the Fiji copared to the Pio.

Is this a normal trait of the 30 series the colours not being as rich and pail compared to the Pio or would this be a setup issue?

How much better is the 40 series compared to the 30?

Has anyone noticed any solarisation (False contour) at all with this panel?

The reason i ask is i owned the NEC 42 XMW3 until receontly and sold it due to solarisation and judder.
The unit shipped here to Australia set at 60hz which minimised the solarisation but intoduced judder on panning shots and scroll ticket at the bottom of the screen.

We were able ot get into the service menu and change th display to 50hz which fixed the judder issue but intriduced heaps of false contour

    Hi Glencol

No judder. The AVM2 processor wipes it out. I actually thought I saw some judder the other day but it turned out to be a now-sorted DVD software issue. Its not a juddery panel.

Colours - very bright and vibrant, as long as you turn off the frankly pointless ambient light sensor.
As for comparisons between the 30-series and 40-series, there's no point. The 40 is a massive leap forward.

My only very slight irritation is that there isnt enough adjustment to correct overscan. For one of my inputs, its at -7 (the limit) and I still need more to fit the image onto the screen. Fortunately its for a source I dont use much.

Dilsh - be kind and scan&email the HCC review if you would. Im too poor now to go and buy a copy.

Glencol - make sure you set aside some money to get the screen ISFed. You wont be getting the best from it until you do. Its not an expensive job and makes an incredible difference.

Pat - can you tell us about the "source you don't use much" just in case it's something I'm (or anyone else is) planning on using more?

Carefactor - its an oldish SVHS deck. Dont be too worried by my previous comments, Id only want to adjust by another 1 or 2 points so its not as though Im missing any more than a few pixels of image. There are no overscan issues with my main sources - DVD and SatTV.
I dont know what falsified contours are but I keep looking for bad things and failing to fnd them.

Re-watching the superb "man on fire" last night, the film switches between dark scenes, natural light and extremely overcooked colours and contrast. This makes it quite a good test for a whole load of difficencies that often afflict plasmas. The whole image was so vivid that I immediately wrote off mexico city from my "must go" list of places.

What ? Films ? You mean the reason for getting a good screen is to get more enjoyment from films. Surely not ? Next you`ll be telling me that I should be listening to music on my hifi, rather than just trying ever more expensive cables and mains regenerators.

Thanks for re-grounding me in reality. :)

Thanks everyone. I feel much better now. I think its the hangover from going out last night - went to a gig in Brum.

Be assured Rah and sdk - the screen is lovelier than ever and cheers me up every time i switch it on.

Hee Hee. Im not married but the GF enjoys the big screen. If she ever goes on strike it will be the first privelige to be withdrawn.

Ive not seen Hero but both that and House of Flying daggers are lovely transfers and should look great.
I could bang on for hours about how fantastic Star Wars Episode 2 or any of the LOTR trilogy looks. Both Kill Bills are fine, too. Every so often I put on something that I didnt think was that good in terms of pq and I get rocked to the core. Collateral, for example.

Im using a cheapie but goodie Chord Company hdmi lead at about £75. Im interested to see if a top end device can make things even better. Ive seen a nice wireworld one for about £300 and wondered what that would be like. Perhaps Nordost will release a valhalla hdmi lead?!!!! Anyone out there using a posh hdmi cable ?
