    Hi Everyone,

I am very new to these types of discussions, but Im looking for some help. I purchased a P42VHA30WS a few days ago. I have noticed that the color on my set just doesnt seem to be as vivid as they were in the store. I find the colors to be quite dull. When I watch TV (using Directv satelite) I find the picture to be not quite that clear and the color to be poor. When I watch DVDs (Harmon Kardon DVD25) I find the picture to be crisp, but the colors seem dull. Im sure that I probably missed some settings somewhere that will make the color come alive. Does anyone have any recommendations for color settings as well as any other settings that might help? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for cabling from my DVD and my Directv to the set? Sorry, I am very new to all this stuff.

    Thanks

Stick it onto 'dynamic' rather than 'fine' mode.

but beware dynamic mode on panny's burns the phosphur 3-4 faster than normal, calibration is the way to go!

But I thought you plasma owners always whine on here..."I play X-Box 500 times a week, TMF is my favourite music channel and I leave BBC News 24 on when I go to work and I never get screen burn, it's all a myth"...etc...etc...

    ;)

I'm sure the guy can use dynamic if he's careful while he waits to get the calibration sorted out although it does make colours look OTT.

I'm presuming he saw the demo plasma in the shop on dynamic mode and his own plasma is not in this mode hence it looks different.

We're not talking screenburn, we're talking screenlifetime. Dynamic burns the phosphours faster so end result would be a shorter life in comparison to a panel run using fine mode. Calibration is definitely the way to go, shop probably did run on dynamic for the demo but if you look closely you'll see it is way too, well, dynamic! Very unrealistic IMO.

I know. I was half asleep when I wrote it. :boring:

You're right dynamic is too unrealistic, but fine's erather too dark.

On the Panny here I use Cinema (equivalent of fine) only during the evening and flick to Normal during the day when it's just too bright to run a darker image.
