I bought a Fuji S602 last year and have had a major problem with it malfunctioning (and thus being inoperable) and and want to know if anyone else has experienced the same - or can suggest how I can get Fuji to properly fix my camera as it has been sent back to them once and still I am having the exact same problem despite it only being sent back to me from Fuji's repair department a few weeks ago.

The problem is that the camera has worked alright for a while then basically shut down the shoot mode (LCD goes on briefly then goes black). The mode to view photos already taken works for a brief while but then malfunctions too - on briefly then LCD goes black. Basically camera freezes up and once this happens it will not work again. Batteries are not the problem as I have investigated this thoroughly.

Fuji had it for 4 wks and returned it saying nothing wrong - but after only a few uses it behaving the same as when I sent it to them before. I am having the same problems (camera freezing and shutting down certain modes) and the only way to fix it is to send it to Fuji yet again as it is impossible to get it to work. I feel I have been sold a dud camera and am not happy as I paid over £500 for a camera that is not reliable, and will need to be sent away yet again for the same fault that Fuji don't seem to believe exists.

What can I do? Where do I stand legally if my camera is a dud? How can I get Fuji to satisfactorly fix my camera or replace it? I'd really appreciate any help as feeling a bit desperate and frustrated by the situation. Is there a consumers rights group/department I could contact to find out my rights regarding what I can do about the camera if Fuji continue to ignore that the camera has a fault and don't fix it properly.
    thanks,
    Sally

    Welcome to the AVForums!

Firstly, this is a daft question, what batteries are you using?

A friend of mine has had the same camera for a few months. He had similar problems where the camera would seem to shut down and not do anything. He sent it to Fuji who sent it almost straight back saying there was probably a problem with the power source that he's using.

I believe these cameras use AA batteries? Please coorect me if I am wrong! I will contact my friend (Londoner - don't see or speak that much) and find out if he fixed it and let you know.

As far as the legal side goes, I cannot help, but possibly your local Citizens advice buerau (sp???) could? They've helped me enough times - and it's free which is always a bonus!

Please, let us know how you get on.

    Hi Collin,
    Thanks for you reply.
My Fuji S602 does use AA batteries - I have used both rechargable batteries with it and normal batteries.
The first time the problem occurred I thought it was because the batteries (rechargeables at the time) had just died because it was very cold so immediately put in fresh normal (non-rechargeable batteries). But this made no difference. I tried various batteries with the camera for the next few days and got increasingly frustrated as nothing made any difference. When it happened it was the "shoot" mode that would not function and basically seems like it had "crashed" but I could still use the view mode to see what I had previously taken. But after a while this mode also malfunctioned too - I could look at a few photos and then the screen would just go black and the whole camera would freeze.

Having then sent it to Fuji as directed by the retailer and the manufacturer, I then expected it to be fixed properly. But after having it for 4 weeks I got it back and a very short note saying that was nothing wrong with it. I have had it back 3 weeks and yesterday it malfunctioned exactly like it did before. My first reaction was to check the batteries and then put fresh new batteries into it as I did before. And like before this has made no difference at all. I tried this again this morning but no change.
I honestly believe that the camera has a manufacturing fault and I have just been fobbed off. I have owned the camera from new and it is only just over 4 months old and already had it out action twice now, Fuju had had it for 1 of the 4 months I've owned it and again it looks like I will need to send it to them yet again which for a £500+ camera is not acceptable at all and very frustrating.

I will again try different batteries again but know from experience that it is very unlikely to be this. Having used a different digital camera (Nikon) regularly in the workplace I know that the problems I am having with my own camera are not normal and have some idea of how long a normal battery should last and this has emphasised that this camera is not up to standard.

Appreciate hearing what your friend did as I am getting increasingly frustrated by not being able to use my camera or rely on it working when it is supposedly fixed by Fuji.
    Thanks!

I will certainly ask my friend - I will try and remember to send him an email tonight from home.

In the meantime, you could also have a look at EPhotozine. They have an excellent forum base of professional and amateur photographers more than willing to help. I am sure that with the wider knowledge from that specialist site that someone might be able to help you.

Has this been resolved yet? I'd be interested in seeing what happens.

I am sorry it's taken so long to reply. Only just got hold of my mate. He said it was his old Fuji that he was having problems with. He eventually threw it in the bin and bought the S602.

    Doh.

Your camera exhibits symptoms which point to a variety of faults. If you fund the postage, I will repair it for free. Absolutely no charge. Takes me about a week.

Best regards from a retired (and bored) Electronics Instructor.

    meandmyshadow thanks for the offer
Apart from the thread being older than many of todays toddlers,
Sally herself seems to not be here any more and the 602 ( mine at least) lovely though it was is a tad "old" now and even my kids dont want anything to do with it!)
Ill just close this one ..Really:rolleyes:
