I noticed yesterday that the price for diesel and petrol was the same at Asda (£1.14). A BP garage had it at a 1p difference, diesel costing more.

Are we going to go back to diesel being cheaper than petrol? Can't remember the last time they were the same price.

Same with me with both being the same price. Good to see since diesel has had a 'premium' for far to long!!!!

The Tesco near me was selling diesel for less than petrol when I went past today. The petrol was also more expensive than at the Tesco near where I work.

Our Tesco put unleaded up 1p then dropped diesel by 2p so the latter is a penny cheaper . So diesel drivers are saving more money, and killing more children ?

I dunno about killing more children, as my diesel returns a combined ~38-40mpg, so 500 miles a tank. Much more than the petrol equivalent, which is around 25mpg.

Newer diesels have particulate filters fitted so do not emitt the pm10s that cause the health issues. So really only a comment for older diesels.

So why do Paris and Milan still want to ban diesels from their city centres?

Probably more to do with politics than actual hard science. Also easier to ban all diesels than ban non compliant ones i.e older ones.

I've seen 14plate diesels doing their regening around town just bellowing out soot . Diesel fumes are classed as carsogenic.

Because they want to do something to look good?
Old vans (bits of rust fling in formation types) are amongst the worst polluters.

    1:1?
My Peugeot 308 does nearly 60MPG and has a DPF, a fairly representative car.
    Boyracermobiles tend to be petrol.

A diesel regenning does not kick out black soot since the process of regeneration is to convert the soot which is carbon into CO2. If a 14 plate is kicking out soot then they may well have removed their dpf.

Indeed, gone are the days of diesels having black exhaust pipes and soot marks up the back of them.
