Leonardo DiCaprio is executive producing a documentary miniseries Frontiersmen which has been greenlit on History. Don't expect The Revenant.

The project is also executive produced by Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way Productions and Stephen David of Stephen David Entertainment.

The eight-hour documentary will cover the early years of American history “from the post revolutionary war colonies through the California Gold Rush,” according to the network.

“During these years, America went from the oppurtunity of land to land of oppurtunity, and it was a bloody struggle throughout,” Paul Cabana, executive president and head of programming at History, said in a statement. He noted that the series will touch upon on the likes of Davy Crockett, Tecumseh, Andrew Jackson, and Daniel Boone. “We’ll tell bold stories of these adventurous tailblazers who explored the uncharted wilderness and became the icons we know today.”

Sounds a bit like Robert Redford's American West.
