I am thinking of selling my Denon AVCA1SE to buy a TAG AV32r and 5x100r.<br />Has anyone already done this? What differences wre apparent? Did you think the upgrade was worthwhile? What is value for money? What were the key differences in sound?

    Hi Tom,

I've never owned an A1SE, but I have listened to one. The Tag sound is unlike any all-in box (or other processor) I have heared. I was unsure of what route to take , but after hearing the AV32R there was no question, not to mention the upgrade potential. Best bet would be to Dem one, or try one at home if you can. only you can decide if its worth it. Take your credit card though!

    Regards Rob.

PS Very pleased with the TDM centre. Now just got to save for the rest. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

    Hi Tom,<br />

when I was looking to upgrade my Yamaha A 592 a few months ago I called into Frank Harvey Hi Fi in Coventry. They had exactly what I wanted to listen to, a Denon AVC 1 SE and a Tag AV32R with a Tag 5x100R power amp. <br /> <br /> They demo'd both systems for me using an Arcam DV88 as the AV source and M&K speakers. The Denon was set up in both 5 and 7 channel but the Tag was only in 5 channel.

The Denon sounded absolutely terrific with everything, but the Tag was even better. The cd's and dvd soundtracks came alive and the sound seemed to have an extra sparkle. I din't think that I would be able to detect any difference but I could. I've had my Tag AV32R for about a month now and its linked to a Rotel 1075 power amp and it's the business. Don't forget that the Tag is being continually updated aswell with software upgrades. Mine has DP2 and the new DTS 24/96 will be available soon. They've just added HDCD. Give it an audition

You may want to consider the new Naim AV2, when it arrives. It is rumoured to not have any video switching, which may put you off, but it's stereo performance will be better then anything in the price range, including the Tag if it's upto Naim's normal standards.

It will do all new sound formats, bar HDCD (which isn't new anyway), but who really needs that, how many CD's actually have it?

It will use a version of the NAP150 power amp, and you can add seperate power supplys to make the sound even better.

I may even get one myslef, if it's not too expsive.

It's due out around October time.

Hi. I have just purchased a Tag over the A1SE after long months of montoring, demoing & research.

My reasons for the Tag are as follows

    1. IMHO the Tag blows away the A1SE in most/all setups

    2. Denon have basically disregarded their consumer base with regard to upgrades (post a question on the Tag site and odds are the CEO (DR Zucker) will reply to your query within 24hrs and even put you in contact wiht the R&D engineers), plus have proven an upgrade path for the unit in the forseeable future.

    3. Free upgrades from for the Tag over the internet - Denon ?????

Check out some of my previous threads on researching both bits of Kit (it may prove useful)

In the end I went for the Tag with Arcam Alpha10 power amps over rotels/2nd hand Niams & Marantz monoblocs.

A descision I have lived with for over a month now and I am constantly amazed by its detail & finesse.

Processor & power amps (ie the Hifi route) is definately the way to go.

    <br />Good luck

    Rick,

I'm with Dominic on this. The Naim is not available. The TAG is available. The TAG, IMHO, when partnered with the DVD32r outperforms any Naim audio cd and pre-amp regardless of price. When we still did Naim one of the first dems we did was the TAG CD transport sync'd to the AV32r v a CDSMK11 and 82 with Supercap. The TAG system was miles better.......we don't sell NAIM anymore.

I think you get the picture!

    Gordon
