I have a Sony DCR-HC14e video camera. If I connect it to my pc via firewire and want to capture the movie I get the following error message "no video capture driver is installed or no device is connected"

With USB, it seems to work, but quality is not that good.

    Please help!

Could be that the firewire cable is knackered!
A few users on here have bought a firewire card from eBuyer and found the problems they were having were due to the supplied cable. Once replaced everything worked fine!

I have tried several, but mainly Pinnacle or Ulead? Can it be that it conflicts with some codecs I have?

It is unlikely that it is the cable it self, as it does work with my labtop from work.

    Thanks,

Is it a windows or mac platform?
    what OS do you use?
I've had bother with windows XP Service Pack 2, but if you search threads under windows XP you'll find my solution (and although I did buy a mac, this was not my solution)

I had exactly the same problem/message with a new FW card. Got a replacement and it worked first time.
