I bought a Sony DAVS500 set-up about 18 months ago intending it to be only an interim measure until I could afford a system based around a Denon AVR3802/3. As ever with best laid plans etc. I don't think this is going happen short term so as a second interim measure I am thinking of going for the Denon AVR 1804 and cheaper DVD player / speakers / sub etc. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Denon amp although I like what I've heard so far.

Anyway, the bottom line is if I try and get a set-up costing, say, £700-800 is there going to be a monumental difference over the Sony or may I as well stick with what I've got for the time being?

If a change is worthwhile any recommendations for bits of kit to audition will be gratefully received.
