Having recently begun watching all the friends re-runs on TV thanks to TiVos unending ability to find EVERYTHING I'm considering getting the DVDs to add to my collection so at least there is something the wife will watch!

Has anybody got the director's cut versions? How much extra is there and are all 4 eps extended?

Will there be a season x box-set of DCs as there is for the normal versions.

It looks like the Region 1 box set of season one is out at the end of this month (according to Amazon)

Checking ezydvd.com.au the r4 versions are £23! stonking.

anybody know if there are any differences

    Hi Graham,

    1) Extended cuts of "Friends" episodes, only started from Season 5, if my memory serves. So Seasons 1-4, will only have the regular 22 minute TV broadcaste edits ever released to the public.

    2) The DVD's with the extended cuts, usually have the broadcast versions on one side, and the longer versions on the other.

    3) The extended cuts, only reinstate about 30 seconds of extra material per episode. Ultimately, you gain very, very little!

    4) I doubt that Warner's will bother with any kind of "Friends" releases, that contain only the Extended Cuts. I think the fact that you only really get about an extra 2 minutes of material, would make that idea the winner of the most Reprehesible Excuse for an Extended Director's Cut Boxed Set.

    5) The US and Australian DVD boxed sets, will only contain the original broadcast versions of each "Friends" episodes, and will probably have more episodes per disc, but fewer discs. Hence, instead of having to buy 6 DVD's with just 4 or 8 episodes per disc, they'll release the Boxed Sets, with, (for example only), 5 discs only. Discs 1-4 will contain 5 episodes each, and Disc 5, will then contain the final 2 or 3 episodes, plus bonus material.

    Hope this helps you out.

technically yes, but in reality - smile and walk through the green channel!!

BTW - I presume that the R4 releases will be in keep cases rather than snappers?

Last time I ordered from these guys it cost $22 AUD for delivery for six discs (one of which was a double disc set). Which worked out at $3.67 per disk.

So at 24% Tax & Duty (17.5% + 6%) on $61.77 ($67.95 less Oz Tax) + $3.67 delivery works out at £31.65 if I get hit with customs or £26.50 if not. This conversion includes the "hidden" charge by my credit card company for doing the currency conversion but is based on the OZ dollar rate last time I bought - not today's rate.

Either way its still less than £53.99 at play.com for the region 2.

Unless the R4 and R2 discs are drastically different it would be madness to get R2 even if they are snap cases, but as they are 3-discs sets I've never seen a snap case that can do that so thinks its unlikely
