Is Pioneer bringing a new generation of plasma tv out every year, because I seem to remember reading a thread that mentioned that a 435xde was bought in September 2004 and that this was the new 5th generation.
Now the 6th generation is being released!, this seems a fast development cycle and considering the amount of money need to purchase one of these plasma's they will become obsolete very quickly. Any thoughts?

LG replace their models every 12 weeks not months!

Every year is about right for a new model, all the manufacturers have yearly cycles.

Wow!, LG every 12 weeks. For me it a little disheartening in that you feel that probably Pioneer are holding back on a number updates that they could have applied to recently launched 436xde but are holding back until the seventh, ...generations.
You know, we'll (Pioneer) make the blacks a little deeper this time with contrast ratio of 3,000, next time (7th gen) will make them 4000 etc.. :(

If pioneer had managed to get the blacks deeper they would have done it, beleive me.
Thing is this technology moves so quickly that any longer than a year and you will look very outdated.

But at least with a new car, particularly if you buy when a new model comes out, you will have several years prancing about in the knowledge that for that manufacturer you have the latest. Just did'nt realise how quickly the market is moving, I don't remember CRT market moving as fast. Oh well!

Yeah the CRT market was exactly the same, each Autumn new models were released.

It's the same as computor processing power. Within 6 months theres one twice as quick for the same price, but it doesn't stop you buying one if you want one.

I bought the Panny500 in full knowledge that it wont be the latest model by the new year, but i also know that i'm very happy with it indeed.

Plasma's don't have reg plates, so unless you invite the AV forum members to your house, who is going to know ?

CRT market moves just as fast. And while they don't make such a fuss over it, cars are regualrly updated throughout their life too!! Not quite as bad mind, but my Alfa 156 has had a new range of JTS engines added after a couple years, a minor face lift, a major facelift, new accessories available, an interior change, and another interior change with the big facelift from what I can remember.

Have Alfa introduced a mod to make the engine run yet? Then you could drop in for that beer!

Not that it applies to the 436, but the 506 is 4000:1.

I wonder why they didn't apply 4000:1 for 436xde as well!.

Moltonboy: see your point about parallels with computer processors.

    *grumbles*

I was hoping one of the new gen panels would be a nice replacement for my damaged Fuji... starting to look like I will be waiting a long time before there is a display I will be happy with.
