Freeview tuning problem on Sony KDL-32P3020

On Monday my new tv was delivered and set up. It is a Sony KDL-32P3020. I have auto tuned in the freeview and analogue channels. The strength from the aerial is strong. For some reason i can't get ITV or C4 on freeview. I have tried retuning with and without the aerial booster. The Sony tv is nearest to the external aerial lead.

Looking at this website UK digital TV reception predictor my transmitter is Waltham (UHF channel 23) and Nottingham (60). I tried to manual tune the TV by typing in the channel 23 but it skips 23 and goes to the nearest which is 26. It does not find channel 23 during the search. Rang Sony helpline but no luck. They said to return the set.

In the other room i have a separate freeview box linked to another tv. This box is linked to the external aerial by using an extension lead. With this box i can get ITV and C4 whose signal strength are strong.

Any idea what the problem can be?

I live in centre of Nottingham so have a good coverage of freeview signal.

Thanks in advance to those who replied.

LOOKS LIKE IT CAN'T DETECT A SIGNAL ON c23.

That is a LONG way from the 54-64 range used by existing Waltham analogue, so it may be that your present aerial is ineffective at that frequency. If you can get an indicatioon of strength for chanels is it lower as CN reduces?

After switchover (2011) your lowest frequency is 29, and anyway all far far stronger so probably no problem.

In the short run; see what happens if you switch kit between rooms.

What steve says is right but i will add that all freeview recievers are not equal they vary in sensitivities,I been testing some recievers and have found variations with the same models.
It's possible the tuner or coax could have a notch at that frequency so it's worth trying what steve suggests.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the link provided by scribbler101 it shows that there is still work to be done because it reports problems with poor reception for bbc1, 2, itv1 and c4.

What confuses me is that my other set up box picks all four channels with a good signal while the Sony tv doesn't. All from the same TV aerial.

Just thinking about what radioredcat said. I will pop over to richer sounds and have a look at their tv and see if their sony tv are getting itv and c4.

might just wait a week and retune the tv and see what happens. If no sucess then simply return it.

This doesn't sound like a fault to me. I see it mentioned that your analogue channels are at the top end of the band. If it's an "old" aerial it will probably be of group CD which is most suited for those channel groups. The channels at 23 etc are group A right at the bottom of the band, which means a CD aerial is designed NOT to receive these.
I would not hold to much by the signal strength meter. What matters is signal to noise ratio.
I suspect you just need a wideband aerial, certainly if you want to continue to receive both digital and analogue.

Edit, will just add that just because one receiver does work and another doesn't , this does not mean the second is neccessarily faulty. The signal may be below the threshold which the Sony deems as a minimum for trouble free reception.
