Is there away of finding out the strength of the freeview signal in your area, I have checked the government website which says I should be able to get some signal but have had no luck in getting any freeview channels. I wonder if anyone else has had better success in my area which is St Madoes in Perthshire.

Thanks for you help

You are 17 miles away from the Angus transmitter.

You will need an extra hi-gain antenna and a masthead amplifier to receive all channels and services.

Hope this helps

Enter your postcode into the Wolfbane website to find out your
digital predictions.

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

Obtain your grid location via the above website and enter this into Megalithia to check the terrain between your home and selected transmitter to see if clear line of sight to your home. You need your grid reference to do this.

Angus is a low powered transmitter and you may have better luck with Durris which has five times more radiated power so check out both

http://www.megalithia.com/elect/terrain.html

Edit: Using the local primary school co-ordinates it shows that there is a massive obstruction to the Durris transmitter line of sight so Angus would appear to be your only option.

You can find out your grid reference from your postcode. Just use the FAQ link given on this website:

Many thanks to you both, I will be adjusting my ariel this evening. I have a wide band one and also purchased a masthead amp.

Moved my ariel and all I got was a bit better analogue signal on a couple of channels, still no freeview! fair enough about the ariel but I have already spent about 50 quid and a few hours of my time to get nothing so I think instead of throwing good money after bad I may look at Freesat in a couple of months.

Thanks again

Seems strange that you are getting no Freeview whatsoever - I would have expected you to at least receive the BBC channels.

You are connecting to a digital tuner aren't you? Either a TV with both analogue and digital tuners or a freeview digital Set Top Box.

You will not receive freeview on just an analogue TV set.

If you have a TV with both analogue and digital tuners then you will probably have to select DTV on the remote control before trying to tune the Freeview channels.

According to some of the links I can receive FV. However, engineers & local TV shops say we've no chance....... But I know a few on our estate can. There's a big hill in the way & with the aerial on a pole on the roof I can........ But the analogue signal from this transmitter is very poor. Had the aerial fitter not tested for a signal at the aerial then again at the aerial socket I would have assumed I couldn't get FV. When pugged in the socket to the tv the flylead lost all signal. The fitter made up a new lead & 60~ digital channels found! Analogue is still useless though!
