Since the world is a small place these days I thought I'd ask how good or bad Freeview reception is towards the East of Coventry (Binley in particular)

The freeview web site said that I might need special installation of a Wideband aerial to get a decent signal. At the moment we only have a booster in the loft which manages to get the analogue signals for 1-5 very very well.

    A long shot I know, but eh....you don't know if you don't ask !! :D

Loft aerial in a fringe area doesn't sound too hopeful to me.

You might want to ask on digitalspy forum, much more active for freeview stuff.

    How about.....

Buy the box, plug it in, and be prepared either way

    - for a pleasant surprise
    - for a phone call to a local aerial installer

If the website says wideband, then in all probability that's the type of aerial you need. And boosters should be considered a last resort.

In Green Lane its not very good, I got 50 channels on a borrowed box but the signal settings were 30%, it was a clear day.

I asked a coventry aerial company to do a survey and they checked the roof and said forget it even a pole on the roof wouldn't help.

At work in Tile Hill we have has the same problem with an ampilfied feed, we are getting a pole to see if it helps, will keep you informed (if i remember)

i live in eastern green, had a new digital aerial put up, also have a booster on the box, pics ok but bit blocky without booster. get 82 channels.
have got an echostar t-101 fta from argos for 44.99 cos i read reviews on it that the tuner is good for fringe areas. have now bought another one for second tv in the house which i do not have on the digital aerial, get approx half the amount of channels.

hope this is of help to you.
