My girlfriend has just bought a house. She can't get Freeview in her area but can get Sky. There is already a dish up from the previous owners and a wire coming into the house. Can I just buy a Sky Digital Box and plug it in? If yes where would I get one from? I got her a Freeview box without checking first so if anyone wants a swap!!!! ;o)

If you want freeview through sky (that what your asking?) then you need a skybox and a special 'freeview card' from sky which lets you get the free channel. Someone else will have to confirm this, but if memory serves me my dad did this a few years back.

To get a sky box you can find them all over the place, second hand shops, ebay, on the classifieds here and at junk makets.

Yes. You can just buy a secondhand Sky digibox and plug it in.

Doing so will get her all the channels marked 'FTA' on THIS LIST.

You won't be able to get ITV1/2, Channel 4 or five becaue they are encrypted and the (£20) card mentioned above is needed (although, very shortly, ITV are going FTA so she'll then only be missing Channel 4 and five).
