I read in the press very recently that because AtTheRaces went to the wall 2 alternative horse racing channels are starting very soon both transmitting from their own selected courses. I understand that initially they are free to air, does this mean they will be available digitally via Freeview?

No, all the Freeview mux space is now taken, so even if they wanted to try and secure space for DVB-T broadcast, they couldn't. They will probably be non-subscription channels on sky, ntl, etc.
