If I buy a progressive scan capable TV, do I need to buy a Freeview box with progressive scan output? And what about a DVD recorder?

    It's all very confusing :lease:

A progressive scan capable TV will still acept an interlaced picture, so no worries about what you can connect up to it :smashin:
This is just as well as Freeview boxes are only available with an interlaced output. They mainly have scart RGBcvS outputs on them, but one or two do have a YUV component output via a scart socket as well, but this will still be interlaced. Any DVD recorder will be able to connect to your new TV as well.

Thanks Mark. Sorry, but I'm still not exactly clear. If I want a progressive scanned image, do I need a progressive scan source? Or can the TV (Toshiba 32ZP48) display a progressive image from an interlaced source (through some sort of internal digital magic - similar to pixel plus)?

Toshiba does say that the progressive scan feature of their TV is best suited to their own progressive scan DVD, and there is at least one make of progressive scan Freeview box on sale. This would seem to suggest that the TV can't do any internal magic to convert an interlaced image into a progressive image, and that it needs to be output specifically in this format by the source.

Sorry to be a bit thick.
