I thought it might be nice to do a giveaway for the very nice people on AVF.

There is no need for likes for this giveaway but it does require a bit of work, I want you to reply with your favourite film and why it is.

The blu-rays are as follows.

Pixar Short Films Collection 2
Andy Parsons Gruntled Live 2011
A Perfect Getaway
A Touch Of Sin
Blade Runner 2049
Devils Rejects DC Version

Saint & Soldiers 2 : Airborne Creed.

My favorite movie is Role Models. When it first came out I saw it in the theaters with my Dad, we both enjoyed it very much. It wasn't until years later I realized it was my favorite movie but it just felt right. It blends a great amount of humor into a very sweet story. Paul Rudd's character Danny Donahue lets his cynicism get the better of him and in a moment of frustration gets himself and his coworker into a lot of trouble. His now ex girlfriend offers him help through a big brother type foundation Sturdy Wings. I won't say anymore so as not to ruin the movie in case you haven't seen it but I'll just say hi jinks ensue. I am a big fan of the people in and behind this film; their projects have brought me so many laughs but I think it is the characters and the way they handle the situations they get themselves into that made this one my favorite movie. It is a tender story will stick with me no matter how many times I watch it which has already been a lot. Thank you!

If I were a rich man I saw when I was young as a kid had no idea that firms like this were even available as thats was at least 50 years ago now.I just never watched a movie like thant prior maybe cartoons but the start of loving different types of films.

Alien.

As a wee boy of probably no more than eight (back in the dim and distant days of 1982), I saw that Alien was on TV. It was near Christmas time and I pestered my mum and dad so much to watch it because I'd read about it in TV Times (remember that?). Anyway, after a fortnight of near constant nagging, my dad finally sat me down on the night in question and said he would let me watch it but under one condition: I watch it all. No taping it (even though we had a VCR at that point), I had to sit there and watch it from start to finish.......man, I nearly wet myself with excitement

So down I sat, next to my dad and it began.......and after ten minutes I proudly announced this was the most boring film I'd ever seen and I wanted to go to bed (it was near midnight on a school night after all). Nope my dad said, you made a deal......so I persevered and it dragged......and it dragged.......and I tried to go to sleep but my dad kept waking me up......and I tried nagging to go to bed, but no........until the facehugger scene in the derelict and I realised I'd bitten off more than I could chew.

On the verge of tears, my dad finally relented and let me go to bed. But the damage had been done. The images of the facehugger and that poster freaked the crap out of me that I had nightmares for a month......not helped by the fact that a massive present arrived for Christmas from my way too cool uncle that was a massive two foot Alien from Kenner, complete with a glow in the dark head (obviously my mum had told him what I was into before the infamous viewing took place!!!).

Suffice to say that the toy lasted about three days before it was given away and I completely ignored the film for about six more years until I heard about its sequel on VHS and I dared myself to watch it after reading the Alan Dean Foster novelisation (to see how scary this one was gonna be!)........and from that point on, revisiting the previous film in all its gory glory and my love was born.

Sidenote: I never learnt. I tried the same trick with my dad when I was older around drinking scotch and smoking a cigar.......I was in that dining room for about six hours with a small tumbler of single malt and a Hamlet, choking and spluttering my guts up before I finally learnt my lesson about asking for things that I was far too young to experience......

Bump for anybody not yet seen this fine offer.

The Social Network - I've always loved Aaron Sorkin scripts (The West Wing, A Few Good Men, Sports Night) but did not like the sound of a Facebook movie, so skipped it at the cinema. It was only on a flight back from LA that I happened to put it on and no film has ever grabbed my attention the way this one did. The script in particular is like poetry - almost every word is perfectly crafted for the situation and the actor, and I often just listen to the audio track separately! But take nothing away from Fincher's direction - he uses his very capable cast perfectly, plus the soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is brilliant. It's just a perfect film to me.

Haha! Coz that's so weird because your experience above sounds almost exactly like my little brother's experience. I was too young to watch it too (it scared me silly) but my little brother was even younger of course....

He wouldn't go upstairs unless someone switched the lights on for him for a year afterwards at least. And his favourite film to this day is....you guessed it!

American Pie 2 - this is escapism at its best. It takes me back to my youth. Long summers, beers, girls and laughing with mates. Worrying about stupid things and making fools of yourselves.

Other than that it’s Back to the future. Since being a lad it’s always been my fave film.

John Carpenter's The Thing.

This is one Film that has been burnt into my memory having first seen it on pirate video back in 1982-1983, a much younger person than I am now.

I love the concept that one Alien cell can take over a whole creature, and that if one cell did get out it could potentially take over the whole world.

An utterly gripping, terrifying movie that has me hooked still to this day. The paranoia and horror the crew of Outpost#31 must have gone through would have been extreme I imagine.

I'm hoping that a 4K UHD release is imminent, but I suspect if there is going to be one released it will be on the Film's 40th Anniversary which is 3 years away.

We have the excellent Arrow version to tide us over until then.

Cheers.

I saw that too at a very young age and it scared the crap out of me - more than Alien did in fact!

I'm still in lockdown for the next three weeks, anybody object to it staying open until then, we may get a few more entries too :)

Pixar shorts 2. I have the first one and my 2 years old loves it. Haven’t got round to getting the second one so will see if I’m lucky on here first before trying to buy a copy.

Star Wars (A New Hope) must still be my favourite film, certainly the first that comes to mind whenever this question is asked. It was such an exciting, thrilling and imaginative movie when seen for the first time. It's always been an easy watch since the roles (goodies & baddies) are so well defined, the plot is interesting without being too simple or overly complex and it remains entertaining on multiple viewings. I've seen it countless times, across a variety of different media, even several times at the cinema (which is pretty rare for me) and I'm sure many others on this forum will have done likewise.

I expect there are plenty of technically better constructed, more beautiful, finely nuanced films that I've enjoyed or haven't even seen, but if the question reduced down to evaluating how much I'd care if they didn't exist and a scenario where only 1 movie could be saved from oblivion, then I'd probably have to choose this blockbuster!

He didn't say which of these blurays is your favourite, just post about your favourite film. Hence why most of us posted about none of the blurays 😁

One week to go and then I'll let you all know who won, thanks for the thoughtful entries guys and gals :D
