Sorry of the topic has been cover (could you pint me to it if it has) but I cancel my Sky subscription earlier this year and they rung me asking me if I wanted to retry the channels I was previously on, again for a 3 month trial period at a reduced rate. Tonight I put on a commercial channel and back came the message There is a problem with your viewing card.

On checking ITV, Ch4 and five and the subscription channels were off the only others I can get is some news, shopping and radio stations so nothing wrong with the card and I take it my 3 months is up(I though they would have just put the price back up and waited for me to cancel).

So whats up with ITV, Ch4 and five.

ITV1 Channel4 and five will all be going encrypted and will require either one of two things:

    i) A Sky subscription
ii) A new FTV card for £23.50 which allows you to watch 3,4 and until at least the 31st of december 2005

I have been told that some of the newer FTV cards that sky had given out just before these new cards were issued will also recieve 3,4 and 5

Absolutely not. Click the free2view link above to get the order line phone number. Only CH4 sells FTV cards.

Make sure you buy it before 1st January, they are stopping £23.50 card supply.

Why, won't that stop some revenue from the cards and stop people from watching (or less) ITV, Ch4 and five?

    ...don't know why.
Guessing Sky would prefer everyone pays a subscription ?
ITV is negotiating with Sky about channel EPG placement and rebranding UK Gold as ITV3, plus some other stuff, maybe something to do with it ?

Be aware that with a free2view card you do not get ITV2.

Yes I spotted that when I switched of Sky earlier this year. Seem some people want to make the max money out of very little.

Most people I have talked to in the last few days say they hardly watch ITV and one said the only thing they watch all week on it was TV Burp.

Right an update. I pulled the card out the other day after the above and replaced it and I got my channels back, so it looks like the card had got moved from its correct position in the slot.

Anyway I was going to cancel the subscription soon so I thought I would order a FTV card.
I could not do this though the web site so I rang for one and was told that the present card would still work up to Dec 2005 to receive ITV, Ch4 and five. After that when the new cards are issued by Sky you will need one then.
But why does it say on the site you have to apply before 31st December 2003 for one?

That I assume is a simple cut off point for people who owned a FTV card sourced from the previous scheme or an ex-subscriber smartcard. Maybe it's a data protection sorta thing or perhaps just logistics as the organisation or SKY do not want to maintain records for cards that ceased to work a couple of months ago or even longer.
The creation of this service was long drawn out and full of political infighting between various broadcasters and regulators, the small window for replacement cards (as opposed to new issue cards) might be the result. I've read in other forums that some people believe that no new FTV cards will be sold in the new year, I've not seen anything definite to support that view though.

So would I be right in thinking that since my FTV card (which was issued in April) has the little house logo, I won't need to pay for a new one - it'll keep working for at least another couple of years ?

I hope so mine is the same.

And I’m not to keen on the digiboxes as my parents have one and someone else I know has one and get signals from 2 different transmitters and I have seen pixilation on both of them the few time they have had them on whilst round at there house. My mate wonders if something like taxis are transmitting out side there alowed frequency remit causing the problem.
