Frailty R1 DVD

Saw some excellent reviews for the cinema opening of 'Frailty' over the weekend - it's meant to be a decent horror, of the more intelligent variety - and decided to see if it was coming soon on DVD.

Seems like it's R1 release is 17/9 but Play are saying it's on their recent releases list... best of all, it's shown as Widescreen 1.85:1 Anamorphic and Dolby Digital (5.1) - THX Surround EX.

Hopefully it'll be a cracker!

I received this last week and plan on watching it tomorrow so I'll let you know. It has been getting decent reviews so I am looking forward to it.

Did you get your copy from Play? Maybe mine will turn up tomorrow or Wednesday? Either way I'll probably save it for the weekend, from the reviews I've seen it should be right up my alley. Sounds like Bill Paxton's done a good job with his first director's job.

It seems to have a good rottentomatoes rating which is usually a good indication of it being worth a watch.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it CarlB.

Fancied seeing this at the cinema, just ordered it instead. I take it there has been a hefty delay in releasing it for UK cinemas

It's a workmanlike, no-frills directorial effort from Bill Paxton.
I didn't have any expectations when I saw it and it turned out OK, although it didn't live up to any of the reviews my friends said they'd read about it - 4 out of 5 found it a letdown, I thought it was decent enough but nothing spectacular. It's good to see films going off the beaten track, and Paxton's definitely got something special lurking inside him if he doesn't get sucked into that Hollywood glossy way of making films. As a director he's got potential, and I'd gladly watch this one again. In fact, it makes a nice change to see a film that doesn't rely on flashy camera trickery to make a visual impact at the expense of the story/characters.

I got my disc from The Disc Emporium. I get almost all my stuff from there, except for catalogue titles where I usually hunt around.

I just watched this and enjoyed it. I wouldn't rave about it, and would probably give it 3 out of 5 on a rating scale.

I don't want to say too much about the film itself for fear of giving anything away but the performances are all great, especially from the young boys who are trying to come to terms with their father's newfound religious crusade.

The picture and sound on the disc are fine, and there is a director commentary from Bill Paxton though I haven't had chance to check that out yet.

I was really looking forward to it. And it was a good film, but not great. Some reviews were classing it alongside Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, which is a shame because my hopes got built up, and it certainly isnt in that class!
