Found a bargain, need some help......

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a 32 inch HDTV that I can replace my old 28 inch widescreen SDTV. It will need to be a " jack of all trades" as it must be able to run my Sky+ box, DVD player, AND Xbox 360.

I would really want it to be able to put out a good non-HD picture, as I watch Sky a lot, but I don't want to fork out for Sky HD as I've only just brought my Sky+ box!

After a long search, I saw this an offer in the Daily Star today for this TV with a free TV Stand, 24 months interest free credit and a three year warranty. All for £649!

The specs for this TV can be found on this page:

Is the TV any good? What sort of panel do they use? Are there any others I could look at for about the same price? I'm really worried about SD performance on HDTVs. Would this TV do a good job?

I've just found out the TV is a re-badged Tatung

Any help would be a bonus. Thanks :)

This seems like a good price, am tempted to get one myself.

Anyone got one or heard of one and can give us some advice on it?

It has had good reviews on their website but not sure whether these are 'handpicked' ones.

I had another look at this TV today. I took my Xbox 360 in to see what it looked like running through VGA and RGB scart. The Xbox 360 running off of VGA looked very impressive. When the console was running through RGB Scart, it looked quite poor. Would my Sky Box running off of RGB Scart look as bad as the Xbox using the same input?

I noticed that the display TV that I was using for the tests had a "buzzing" right speaker.....................

I'm still in two minds to get one. Someone help me..............

I am looking myself and found this, see link below, but it is 37in. Is that too big, the price is only £749.99. It seems to have pretty high specs and it does not mention the tuner, which from looking at another site is analogue. It was £20 cheaper there but the customer write ups were not a good. I looks to have a good onsite guarantee. The input specs are in tiny writing at the bottom of the specs page. Worth a look.

That TV is a bit too big! I can only just get a 32 inch into my living room.

The Image Contrast Ratio (800:1) is a bit poor, as I was told it should be over 1000:1 for larger TVs. Thanks anyway for looking around for me :)

Hi,

The Evesham LCD's have also caught my eye recently as well . A decent spec TV for a very good price, but I think the major plus for it is that 3 year swap-out warranty included .

Any problems withn the first 3 years and they'll come round to your house and replace it with another one, excellent peace of mind .

Look here at the Evesham website

P.S The detailed review Hig found is a very interesting read.

Just been delivered and setup.
Not had much chance to play yet but initial quality from Sky+ via RGB scart and dvd via component with prog-scan, I am well impressed by the pq.

Just putting in a good word for Evesham as a company - generally helpful and honest.

Tatung have been making computer monitors since the days LCD was only to be seen on a digital watch! That doesn't mean that they know anything about televisions and their electronics.

However, if you want to go first a lower-tier manufacturer, you could do worse than trust Evesham as a supplier.

Bought one of these Evesham 32" LCDs last week. Was delivered on Monday.
First impressions are....looks really neat and the glass table is worth having. Little disappointed with the picture quality from the Sky box. Bought a couple of better grade scarts than the cheapo black plastic standard ones supplied by Sky, and the picture is now a little better.
I guess this is an issue in general with LCD screens. eg. blurring and pixel image blocking.
On the whole though I'd say it's definitely worth the money and with a 3yr guarantee, 2yrs 0% finance and a free glass table, one of the better deals about for a low end LCD entry level set.
