Just got my copy of LOTR FOTR (R1) from Play, but i ordered the collectors gift set (big box with argonath polystone figures) and they have sent me the ''special extended dvd edition'' instead.

Can anyone tell if its likley that you can't get the ''collectors edition'' anymore and they've sent me this instead or its just a mistake they've made. I have E-mialed them but i can't see me getting a reply until the new year.

    Cheers.

Just received E-mail from play saying to ring cusomer services to arrange to send it back.

Ring them up and have a long conversation with them. Ask them to actually check what's going on and whether they actually have one in stock right now to send you.

I went through a long process with them once regarding The Rock Collector's Edition. The people on the phone were not very clued up. It was only when I had been sent the wrong thing twice, that they actually got off their butts and went to ask someone who knew whether I'd get what I wanted or not!

I bought the R1 Box-Set for my brother from PLAY last week - so it was still available then. Sounds like a mistake to me - did they take the money for the box-set or just for the extended ed?

Can anyone confirm the difference between LOTR FOTR extended edition and the collectors edition as in the main film.

On PLAY it says the extended ed is 3h20min long and the collectors ed is 2h58min long. But both films are suppose to be the extended ed, just the collectors ed has the statues in.

Probably just an error, but the R1 version with the statues contains a fifth disc, a national geographic thing about the film.

Sorry about not replying, I must have missed your question.

No I didn't have any problems with Tax - never have (touch wood quick!!)

The differences between the R1 & R2 are: R1 has extra fifth disc with documentary on, some of the extras on the R2 have been censored, R1 has a few extra features which the R2 doesn't have, and the R1 packaging is arguably better.

And the R2 and R4 have player-generated subtitles.

I'm with Lex, R1 definitely the one to get.

    It's ok. ONLY 10 DAYS LATE! :D :p

    &

I know. The R1 is the one i've ordered, but it's the actual version of the film that i want to know about, if the '' Collectors edition'' IS the same extended version of the film as the '' Extended edition'' just packaged different, ie one has the statues and one dosn't.

Cheers guys, it's just i want the statues and the Extended version of the film. Ive just sent the Extended version back because i ordered the Collectors edition for the statues, but they sent the wrong one! but if the Collectors edition isn't the Extended version of the film i will be...... Well no need for words there.

At the end of the day its the Extended version i want. Just can't undersand why both boxsets are classed as the Extended version but the two film types differ by about 20 odd minutes. Can anyone confirm the difference in films.:)

The collectors edition (one with bookends) and the extended edition are exactly the film. I think it is just an error with the running time.

Just in case anyone does want the R2 Collector's edition (with bookends) I noticed that Borders have it in their sale for £27.99, IIRC. At that price I would guess that they are clearing their stock...

Must of had a rought ride because the cable ties that hold them in place were broke and the bookends had damaged the inside of the box. Thanks Royal Mail:mad:

Yeah! the hands had broken of both statues, I was going to just glue them back on, but it's not the same. The see through plastic windows on the box was all battered and scratched from them! Couldn't beleive how this was treated.

woohooo!, I recieved my LOTR 5 disk Collectors edition this morning (ebay jobby) and am well impressed with the look and feel of it. the DVD's are much better packaged than the 4disk SE R2 version, a lot less like rice paper packaging :)

not had a proper look at statues yet (would of been late for work otherwise) but am so glad I got this version and waited this long for it

R1 all the way, it's gotta be said
